Need some help finding dimensions for the PAL SNES/SFC cartridges.
-
I am planning to build a portable SNES over the Christmas holidays, so I am planning purchases and 3d modelling parts etc. However I have run into a problem, I want to 3d print a custom PAL/SFC cartridge to mount this screen in, but I have google-fu'd to the best of my ability, using multiple phrases, and while I can find the size of the cartridge, I can't find it's dimensions, ie size of the hole in the bottom, radius of the curved edges etc.
If someone has a cartridge or a cad model could you please give me the measurements of the: size of the hole in the bottom, radius of the curved edges, dimensions of the dip in the front, ridges along the side, and any other indents or ridges on the cartridge.
Could you please also give me these dimensions in millimetres if possible. Alternatively if you have an existing 3d model of a cartridge in .obj or .stl formats that would be even better. Thank you very much.

I have some PAL SNES carts so can send you some pictures with a ruler and measurements if no one else already has an accurate model. I'll check back on this thread later and if no one else already has the details to hand I can start taking pics.

I don't know where you're from, but over here in the Netherlands you can buy used SNES game cartridges for about € 2,- (about $2-$3). So if you want exact dimensions, radius' etc, i recommend buying a cartridge for yourself.

The soccer game I bought to mount my 2.2" screen in was $4 including shipping from eBay. Well worth it if you need precise measurements.
Also, unless you're going to make the 3D cartridge taller than a normal game, I don't know that a 3.5" screen will fit. The 2.2" screen I used fills the label area vertically.
That said, something like a Super Gameboy-style cartridge with a screen on it would be really cool for using the console on the go and then you could hook it up to a TV when one is available.

Plenty of PAL SNES gear here in Australia.
The cartridge slot is 97.75mm across the opening on the base of the cart.
The radius of the curved edges on the side of the cart is about 12.5mm, it's hard to be precise because the entire front curves slightly.
The dip in the center is 69.85mm across and 5.05mm high. There is a deeper section in the middle which is 24.75mm across.
The shallow part of the dip is about 3mm deep at the edges and about 4mm deep where it dips down. The deep part is a little over 5mm deep (sorry I don't have a good way to measure this with my verniers).
The distance between the decorative vertical lines is 85.25mm.
The five side ridges start 6.25mm down, are 2mm wide, with a 2.25mm rise in between them.
The label is 105.25mm by 37.5mm.
The cart is overall 127.75mm by 87mm.
I'm happy to take photos for you if you want, but please specify the exact measurement you want with a picture so that I get it right.
However I agree with the others, just buy a sacrificial cart. The cheapest I can see on eBay are AU$10 here in Australia, or AU$6 plus postage from the UK.

@suprjami Thank you very much, I wanted measurements rather than a real cartridge as I wanted to make it slightly taller to accomadate the larger screen.

@suprjami Thank you, taking a picture would be most beneficial, so could you please label it with the measurements you mentioned above, as well as thickness of the cartridge, width of the cartridge slot, and the distance between the back of the cart and the cartridge slot. If you could also send me the distance between the bottom of the cart and the bottom of the label, that would be very helpful. Thank you very much for your assistance.
