Is thre Benfit to Maxing out the VRam?
-
I am running a very graphically-intense theme, which was having trouble loading properly at first. But when I upped the VRam in emulationstation to somewhere around 500mb, everything started running very smooth.
However, I have some issues where some of the video snaps in the menu will freeze (instead of looping as they should). You can still hear the sound, but the gameplay is not moving. If you back out and come back, then sometimes they will work. If you restart, that usually helps.
I'm wondering if there is any disadvantage to just maxing out the VRam setting in emulationstation. Its max setting is 1000mb. Could I open up a can of worms doing that, trying to fix performance elsewhere?

Thanks for the reply. I'm running the latest image from the site, 4.8. And here is my resolution settings (1080):

If you're on a Pi3 or earlier model, the GPU VRAM is limited through the
config.txt
settings to 256Mb, on a Pi4 the limit doesn't exist, but the GPU will not be able to use 1Gb even on the Pi4.
Depending on the model, I suggest you try to increase the VRAM to 180/256Mb and see how the theme works. -
@mitu Will do, thanks!
Sometimes gameplay snaps loop with no problem. Can you perhaps give any insights on why sometimes the snaps freeze after about 15 seconds, but then play ok when I back out of the menu and repload?
