Retropie & PPSSPP with all main golf games
-
Hi, I’m running a 3B+ with standard retropie installation. Generally working well but with almost all PSP games I am getting a black screen on some games and really bad stuttering on golf games like everybody’s golf. The weird thing is, the stuttering on the golf games is when the screen really isn’t doing much, but the frame rate drops to about 4FPS.
Then when the trigger is pressed to make a shot, the screen goes black apart form the power slider, which is incredibly slow. Seeing as neither of these things are really that graphically intensive, I was hoping there is a fix out there somewhere.
I’ve read countless advice forums and played with every setting I can find on retropie, retroarch and PPSSPP emulator (frame skips yada yada). Can’t get it any better.
Any ideas please? Thanks!!

@Ginger ,
there is some imortant information missing as requested in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first
At least we have to know which version of retropie you are running, which ("standard")-image is used, which emulator you are running for PSP and so on.
Have a look of the content of the linked "read this first"-link:Power Supply used: (If using a Pi)
RetroPie Version Used (eg 3.6, 3.8.1, 4.1 - do not write latest):

How to replicate the problem:Just a sidenote: personally i was able to run PSP pretty well with the Pi4B, with the Pi3B+ i had no good results. But i dont tinker with settings/configs at all, so no idea of possible optimizations.

@sirhenrythe5th Sorry, done :)

@Ginger perfect!, thank you ;)
Sadly i cannot help as i use lr-PPSSPP only and have no experience with PPSSPP_standalone.
But the majority of user use the standalone emulator, so i am pretty sure that other users will give hints soon. -
I test Everybodu Golf with RPI3 and RetroPie 4.8.2 and the game indeed is very slow. I believe is because Rpi3 is not strong enough for psp games. I test with RPi4 and is playable there. As for the black screens, with what games do you have this ?

@windg hi. When playing swing on golf games the background completely disappears.
Tron legacy - first screen is blank although intro music is there.
Fantasy golf - intro screen blank. -
@windg my main point here is that some parts of the game (intro screens, hole fly by, also after you’ve hit a ball, after a few seconds when ball is mid flight, the frame rate is great)… when it stutters, graphically, there is hardly anything going on. So I was hopeful it could be fixed.

Pangya Fantasy Golf is working for me but is slow. I am using a version that have a black screen fix. Maybe the black screen is a game protection.

I'm running a near identical build but with 2 wired contollers. The only psp games I run are the Williams and Gotlieb pinball games, but they run well on ppsspp. I just had to activate frameskip, otherwise there's minor stuttering.
It may just be that those games are some of the ones that the pi struggles with.
