Ability to change profile image/avatar

I was wondering if the following is still a requirement to be able to change your profile image/avatar:

If so, would it be possible to adjust settings to not use your email address gravatar since there is no way to override it in your profile to start?

Or could some kind hearted souls upvote some of my posts/comments.

Are you concerned someone's going to reverse-engineer your email address, from your profile image?

@sleve_mcdichael I just don’t want the gravatar image associated with the email address I used for this forum as my profile image.

And seems a little unwelcoming for new users like myself.
