Hey everyone πŸ‘‹ I've not used my rpi for
ages and have got a shiny new rpi400 and got a cyberdeck and display for it.
I am wanting to be able to send the games artwork to the pi screen when I load the game and then erase it when I quit out of it.
Any help/ideas/suggestions would be most welcome as I think it would be pretty cool.
Thanks everyone in advance and thankyou
      for retropie.

The screen used is a display hat mini fro pimeroni and the python library is ST7789 Python library.

You can use the scripting support in EmulationStation to run a script when a game starts/stops. See here. You can call your display script when the game starts, then another one that clears the screen when it stops.
