      I want some custom videos to be shown in the screensaver, but EmulationStation doesn't have an option to show custom videos as screensavers, only Random videos.

      In order to bypass this, I converted my custom videos from .mp4 format to .avi format and I put them on a custom folder named screensaver in /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/downloaded_media. Then, I changed the screensaver video format from .mp4,.avi to .avi and the screensaver media directory in es_settings.cfg,

      <string name="SlideshowScreenSaverMediaDir" value="/opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/downloaded_media/screensaver" />
      <string name="SlideshowScreenSaverVideoFilter" value=".avi" />

      but when I started the Random video screensaver in EmulationStation, only my .mp4 scraped videos were shown, as usual.

      Then, keeping these changes, I edited the gamelist.xml file of a console (in my case Atari 2600) and put one of my custom videos as the scraped video of a game I have for Atari 2600 (I chose Breakout).

        <video>/opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/downloaded_media/screensaver/Advance Wars.avi</video>

      Even this time the screensaver showed only my .mp4 scraped videos, but EmulationStation showed that custom video scraped in Breakout (even if that video made all EmulationStation lag quite a bit), so I suppose it is not a problem of the video itself, nor of the .avi format.

      Do you have any idea on how to make this work? Thank you in advance.

              Set the video screensaver mode to Slideshow, otherwise the source will always be the scraped video media.
