[emulationstation feature request] Game Usage Tracking

Has anybody done or thought about adding functionality for tracking play hours by game/day/month? Something similar to what Nintendo does with the 3DS and WiiU and I'm sure Microsoft and Sony also have something similar.
It would be nice to have something such as this but I am too much of a newbie to work on anything at this time. Has anybody started or even thought about something like this?

@DatsunPatrol I think it's doable, but actually it would be more a "total time running the emulator with this ROM". A suggestion I can give you (only in the sense of making your request more visible to emulationstation hackers) is: change your topic title to something like "[emulationstation feature request] Game Usage Tracking".
