Consoles for TV
-
Hello, sorry I'm not very tech savvy, but are RetroPie systems compatible with TVs? Or is this mainly for computers?
-
You can't install RetroPie into a smart TV, if this is what you mean.

@windg Gotcha... Okay, but are there systems I can purchase with retro emulators installed that I can hook up to my TV?
Again, sorry for my lack of knowledge. I'd like to get one for my grandkids. I found this Raspberry Pi thing, but it looks like it's only a circuit board. And I've found items on eBay, but don't know if I can trust them or if they are what I'm looking for.
Thank you!

@rrrule32 Yes, you can connect a raspberry pi to a monitor/TV. i recommend to read the official documentation about Raspberry Pi : https://www.raspberrypi.com/documentation/ , and about RetroPie : https://retropie.org.uk/docs/.
Please, be careful and don't buy a premade image with RetroPie online. RetroPie is free! Except that, premade image with roms are illegal and againt the rules, this mean will not have support from this community.

@windg Good to know! Thank you so much for your input!

@rrrule32 "RetroPie" is a collection of shell scripts to assist with the download, installation, and configuration of various different emulator and front-end softwares on Linux computers running a Debian-based distribution.
Raspberry Pi is a single-board computer that runs Raspberry Pi OS, a Debian-based Linux distribution, and can output via HDMI to a television or computer monitor.
You can put RetroPie on a Raspberry Pi and connect it to your TV. You probably cannot put RetroPie on the TV itself, but really I don't know what they're doing with smart TV's these days so what do I know. If it runs a Debian-based Linux, it just might work.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
