Has anyone successfully gotten this particular screen to work with the latest version of Retro PIE?

I have seen several guides such as
      https://forums.adafruit.com/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=57534
      https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-pitft-3-dot-5-touch-screen-for-raspberry-pi

I am using a raspberry pi model b
      edimax wifi
logictech wireless keyboard and mouse combo
      logitech f710 wireless controller
Ultimately i would like to use GPIO for controls

        Reference this article
        https://learn.adafruit.com/running-opengl-based-games-and-emulators-on-adafruit-pitft-displays/overview

        Specifically
A 320x240 pixel PiTFT display (2.8" resistive, 2.8" capacitive, 2.2" HAT). For gaming we won’t be using the touchscreen features, but still need to distinguish among the various models. The 3.5" PiTFT (480x320) is NOT recommended for this project — more pixels means slower refresh.

You were not specific in which model of display you were indicating.

@maddog5683 Did you end up getting it working?

I was able to on a Rpi 3, following Adafruit's 3.5 section on the above referenced opengl/emulators guide.

Unfortunately, the kernel that the adafruit-pitft-helper installs is something like RetroPIE 4.1.14 v7, where the newest version, that the gamecon GPIO driver works with is 4.4.something. (Sorry don't have it running in front me.) I can actually see it uninstalling the gamecon module when I run the pitft-helper scripts, and then can't re-install gamecon from the RetroPIE setup util...
