boots to command line. Emulation station won't load; illegal instruction
-
Pi Model or other hardware: Zero 2 W
Power Supply used: 5.2v 2.5a (purchased from Adafruit)
RetroPie Version Used: RetroPie 4.8 (RPI 2/3ero 2 W)
Built From: RetroPie website and Raspberry Pi ImagerI'm trying to install RetroPie for the first time but it always loads to the command line. I have flashed the SD card multiple times, from the RetroPie site and through the Raspberry Pi Imager. I have reinstalled the image multiple times(formatting between each flash attempt) downloading from the retropie website and loading through the Raspberry Pi Imager. Every thing seems to boot properly but it ends at the command line. If I enter emulationsation I get back illegal instruction
When I run cat ' which emulationstation ' it looks like it's telling me I installed the wrong image, but from the two different sources I downloaded the image from I picked the one that listed the Pie Zero 2 W

Are you sure you have a Zero 2 W PI model ? From the greeting text, it looks like it's a simple Pi Zero (W or not).
You can check the model from the SSH session by running
dmesg | grep Model

@mitu said in boots to command line. Emulation station won't load; illegal instruction:
dmesg | grep Model
Thank you. Nothing happened when I tried that command. However I tried cat /proc/cpuinfo and I do indeed have a Zero W (not what I ordered). I will flash the proper image for this model and try again. Thank you for the help!
