I have installed RetroPie on Ubuntu 18 and had a really nice setup.

      (What happened)
in the Arcade section some of the mame Roms wouldn’t work with the emulators provided. BUT did work when I manually downloaded a core within RetroArch. They do work if I use MAME-2003 or Mame-Plus instead of just the FBA core.

I downloaded EVERY core in the RetroArch Downloader and everything was good until I Rebooted.

Now both the ARCADE section & MAME section are missing from the dash, even though all ROMS are still in RetroPie/ROMS/…..

I opened RetroPie-Setup.sh and have tried (U) Update
      (S) Update RetroPie-Setup Script

I have tried to scrape for ROMS and the two lists are still missing

      (So)
I can go to OPTIONS inside EmulationStation and load RetroArch and everything works fine, it’s just I’ve broke the front-end.

I tried searching for the answer but have no luck on google

This seems un-related to using the RetroArch's downloader, unless you've also used the scanner and it may have moved the ROMs.

Did you modify EmulationStation's configuration files - specifically the es_systems.cfg file ? Run EmulationStation with the --debug parameter and post the log on pastebin.com

         emulationstation --debug

Also, post your es_settings.cfg configuration file, which you can find in $HOME/.emulationstation.

Btw, downloading the cores through RetroArch's downloader is not supported by RetroPie's installation, you can install the same cores from RetroPie-Setup and they'll be properly integrated with the front-end so the games can start directly.

          @mitu

          Thank you for your help
One of the kids must of reset the es.system.cfg
All rom directories are pointing to /root/RetroPie and all my ROMS are /home/RetroPie. !

it is a shame I don’t know how to tweak KIOSK mode & kids mode so you can still get the benefits from using Full UI Mode
