Help with pole position 1 and 2 on MAME

Hi guys.

just need some advice.
I am trying to play pole position 1 and 2 on MAME.
I have gone into the menu to set the controls up.
Three buttons - 1 for accelerate, 1 for brake and 1 for change gear.

The issue I am having is that when you turn left the car also accelerates and when you turn right the car also brakes.

Any help is appreciated.

Which one of the MAME emulators are you using ?

I'm more into building the cabinets. This is an image I was given by a friend years ago.
I'll do my best.

RetroPie version 4.5.1
2 player arcade control kit and external speakers**

Not sure what the rest means to be honest.

I would advise you to start from scratch with the latest RetroPie, we don't know what configurations are in the image your friend has offered you and the version you're using is quite old.

Instead of mame4all, which is no longer maintained and recommended only for very weak Pi0/1 devices, use fbneo or mame2003-plus for arcade games emulation, they have better integration with the input configuration in RetroPie than mame4all.
