Hi I’m running retro pi on a raspberry pi 4 model B 4gb and I keep getting a rainbow screen while trying to boot. I know someone brought up something similar to this but I believe they were working with custom images I am not. I know the problem is not To do with the pi as I was able to flash raspian onto it and so my sd card and works aswell which is 32gb if you are curious and the so power supply works. I tried 2 different HDMI cables and both ports nothing worked. I tried using official rassberry pi imager didn’t work then I tried etcher also didn’t work tried both multiple times then I tried adding lines of code to the config.txt file like boot_delay=1 doesn’t work. I’m going to attempt now to install retro pi on top of Raspberry Pi OS Lite (64 Bit) but probably will not go well as I’m not that smart/ tech savvy if anyone has any advice please help im really stupid. Cheers!

Are you sure you install from the Pi imager this option -> RetroPie (RPI 4/400) ?

Also, if i understand correctly, Raspberry Pi OS is booting fine ?

You can try also the RetroPie weekly images*. First try this image : https://files.retropie.org.uk/images/weekly/retropie-buster-4.8.5-rpi4_400.img.gz

If it's fail try this: https://files.retropie.org.uk/images/weekly/retropie-bullseye-4.8.5-rpi4_400.img.gz

*(Weekly images: These are automated development builds - they are not tested or supported nor should be
      considered "Official" releases)

My English isn't at a good level.

@ljpgulliver I also had the same problem did my head in till I grabbed a miniport cable and swapped it over from my old screen plasma to my reasonably modern tv. If you have another monitor maybe try it with that.
