By chance are you using lr-mame2003? This is the emulator/romset I use for my setup, and I have the same issue with trying to run Tapper. However: I am happy to let you know I have found a workaround. Install lr-mame2010 and use it to run this title only (from the launcher menu). I can confirm that this particular title works perfectly using this method, despite it using the romset from lr-mame2003. Let me know if this works out for you.

              https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/runcommand

Select option number 2 (after installing lr-mame2010) for tapper.

So, I am trying to run Tapper on Mame2010, but the sound is horrendous. Anyone else getting awful sound?

Is Mame2010 still the prime choice for Tapper?

I believe Mame2010 is currently the only way to play any of the Bally Midway MCR System titles, Including:

                  • Kick/Kickman
                  • Tron
                  • Satan's Hollow
                  • Tapper
                  • Timber
                  • Discs of Tron
                  • Spy Hunter
                  • Solar Fox
                  • Two Tigers
                  • Journey
                  • NFL
                  • Wacko
                  • Demolition Derby
                  • Sarge
                  • Kozmik Krooz'r

@dankcushions has improved mame2003 more than just about anyone. Perhaps this is something that he could check into.

                  RetroPie v4.5 • RPi3 Model B • 5.1V 2.5A PSU • 16GB SanDisk microSD • 512GB External Drive

I've tested Tron, Satan's Hollow, Tapper and Timber in mame4all and lr-imame4all and they work fine though audio is better in mame4all.

Thanks for the info. I suppose some games just will not be good until later Mame's can run on Pi. Perhaps RPi4 is required to get us up to speed.

I was able to get mine playing tapper but I had to "insert coin" with the keyboard(5 or 6). I was going to try and edit the controls for this to see if it would work but haven't yet.

@mediamogul I cannot seem to get Two Tigers to run in RetroPie with either lr-mame2003 or lr-mame2010. I am new to RetroPie and mame, is there configuration required? I am using RetroPie 4.1 on a RPI2.

@PoppyC You can try using AdvanceMAME. I use it to play titles listed here that don't work in lr-mame2003 (Tapper, Journey, Sarge, Xenophobe, etc.). Don't overlook AdvanceMAME. It isn't a libretro core, so you may need to make configuration changes using the .rc file (make backups first!). You also need the appropriate ROMset depending on which AdvanceMAME you use.
