Pi Model or other hardware: Dell Wyse 3040 (2 GB RAM, SDIO Wifi & Bluetooth module)

RetroPie Version Used (eg 3.6, 3.8.1, 4.1 - do not write latest): Github 460f018 3/10/24

Built From: Debian 12 net install (no GUI, installed to external USB 3.1 flashdrive) installation script from https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup

USB Devices connected: USB Keyboard, Xbox360 Wireless adapter

Controller used: USB Keyboard, Bluetooth Keyboard, Xbox 360 wireless

      Guide used: https://wiki.debian.org/InstallingDebianOn/Dell/Wyse 3040 and https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup retropie_setup.sh

How to replicate the problem: Run "emulationstation" from Debian cli, wait for the loading progress to complete. Only Xbox 360 controller is recognized, USB and Bluetooth keyboards that work from the Debian CLI do not function within Emulationstation - no keyboard shortcuts work as advertised on the screen, only Xbox controller input. No issues with either USB or Bluetooth keyboards anywhere else in Debian.

By default, the only 'shortcut' available on a keyboard is F4, which exits EmulationStation. Did you configure the keyboard in EmulationStation - followed the same steps as for a gamepad/controller ?

No keys are recognized, no F4, no holding a key to start the "controller" config. It's the same for USB and Bluetooth keyboards that otherwise work just fine from the Debian terminal.

Actually now I noticed this - we don't support nor test running from the CLI on a PC, a desktop environment (X11/Wayland) is required on that platform.

If you still want to run it via KMS/DRM, check if your user is part of the input/video/render groups.
