Pi400, RetroPie performance at 1080p with shaders.
-
RetroPie is running the latest version.
I found that running games at 1080p with shaders causes slowdown in the games. It's most noticeable on fast paced games, for example Sonic on Genesis, or FBNeo Street Fighter Alpha 3. It's not so much slow-down, but gives a similar result to frame-skipping, where it looks like frames are missing.
Knocking the resolution down to 720p completely eliminates this issue and the games run just like the original hardware, the games still look great, but 1080p does look slightly better as the shaders are designed for 1080p.
Any tips to get the games running perfectly at 1080p, or is the Pi400 just not powerful enough?
Thanks.

Some shaders are effecting drastically performance. What shader are you using? If you enable FPS counter, you will see the frames, so to be sure that you have frames drop and not screen tearing. You can enable this during the game from here :
Open Retroarch menu during game > Settings > On-Screen Display > On-Screen Notifications > Notification Visibility> Display Framerate
