Screensaver displays Megadrive instead of Genesis [Screensaver]

This issue is one that existed previously but the solution no longer seems applicable.

I'm wondering if it's possible to change the displayed system name in the video screensaver in EmulationStation. All titles show the correct system name and system name except for "Sega Genesis" which still displays as "Sega Mega Drive" even after creating the platforms.cfg and seeing the theme appropriately update. Previous recommendation were to edit the es_systems.cfg but I don't know if that exists with the latest builds as of April 2024. This is a manual build on a RaspberyPi 5b 8GB with Bookworm 64 Lite, no desktop. Titles are correct for Genesis games and the correct videos load. They even launch correctly with the "Start" button. Just wish it would show the US name of the system as the UK variant, "Mega Drive" was not released here and my son saw a video for a game he wanted to play but couldn't find the mega drive system to launch it as the excellent Tronkyfran theme was displaying the Genesis logo and console art.

Any thoughts on what can be edited in 2024 to achieve this?

This looks like an EmulationStation bug - the 'given' system name is not displayed on the screensaver subtitle ? While es_systems.cfg can still be edited to change the name, that's not recommended - using a custom platforms.cfg should be enough.

That's not just UK, the rest of the world, including the origin country (Japan) had known the system as MegaDrive.

@mitu Thanks Mitu. Didn't realize it was Megadrive everywhere except here. Good to know. Since it appears to be a bug, I'll ignore it for now as it's a very tiny minor cosmetic. Out of curiosity, where is the current path to "es_systems.cfg"? I was surprised I couldn't find it through ftp or midnight commander. Thanks for the help :)

In addition to the theme and platform suggested here, try also adding name and/or fullname, like:

megadrive_theme="genesis"
megadrive_platform="genesis"
megadrive_name="genesis"
megadrive_fullname="Sega Genesis"

Then as per the instructions, you need to reinstall any genesis emulator (eg. lr-genesis-plus-gx) to rebuild the es_systems.cfg.

@sleve_mcdichael That did it! Didn't realize there were additional entries we could've added. It now properly shows the "Sega Genesis" title on the screensaver for genesis/megadrive games. Thanks!
