@folly There is very useful information about games/programs for PMD-85 at https://pmd85.borik.net/wiki/Download . For example, I want to play "ZABY" game (Frogger) - the game information is in "Other" section on the web page. I am attaching image. I tried to load it with MGLD 01, but it appeared as "09 ZABY", so I tried itagain with MGLD 09, because "09" is the number which was used for storing this game on the tape. After loading, nothing happens - this game is not "autorun". I had to write command JUMP 1500 to run it, because this address "1500" is specified in column "spustenie" which means "to run" in English...
-
Good info ;-)
I will have a look.
The hash file says :
<software name="zaby" supported="partial"><!-- loads but does nothing -->Are you able to play ?
I can get the same screen as you do but I can't play.BTW. I now see that the JUMP commands are also in the hash file.

I have a working boulderdash from "pmd85emu_games_vbg".

@Folly OLD THREAD REVIVE!
I'm trying to get this system running, but I'm getting nowhere.
I installed it with your script as usual and the games show up in EmulationStation.
I've got PMD851.ZIP in the BIOS folder, containing PMD85-1.BAS and PMD85-1.BIN.
I've got the gamelist game files in the ROMS folder and I'm trying to run one that works according to this thread - Manic Miner.
But I keep getting dumped straight back to EmulationStation with this log:
Parameters: Executing: /opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/bin/retroarch --config /opt/retropie/configs/pmd851/retroarch.cfg --appendconfig /opt/retropie/configs/pmd851/retroarch.cfg.add'|'/dev/shm/retroarch.cfg -S /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/pmd851 -s /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/pmd851 -v -L /opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-mess/mess_libretro.so 'pmd851 -rompath /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/mame;/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/pmd851/ -cfg_directory /opt/retropie/configs/pmd851/lr-mess -c -ui_active -cass "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/pmd851/manicmin.zip"' --verbose [INFO] RetroArch 1.8.8 (Git 9552f87) [INFO] Redirecting save file to "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/pmd851/manicmin.srm". Works here with mame and lr-mess, no problem at least for the regular basename and -cass runcommands I used.
Something doesn't add up.
You havemess_libretro.so
whereas mine usesmamemess_libretro.so
Do you use a very old lr-mess binary and or script ?The runcommand lr-mess-pmd851-cass you used is the same as I used except that yours has
mess_libretro.so
in it.Does standalone mame work ?
-
@Folly I haven't updated MESS (or lr-mame) since it became "mamemess", because I can't face editing literally about 100 different EMULATORS.CFG files. I would very much like to throw whoever made that change down a well :(
So after I installed the PMD85 via your (old) script, I had to change all the mentions of "mamemess" back to "mess" or it crashed much worse. At least now it TRIES to run, and I don't see why it's failing. All the other systems I installed with your script (all using "mess" rather than "mamemess") still work fine.

It shouldn't be that hard to change as I once made a command that will do that in seconds.
However be prepared that somehow your OS will soon be out of date too for the very latest mame and probably lr-mess.
Perhaps the time will come soon to make a whole new image. So after I installed the PMD85 via your (old) script, I had to change all the mentions of "mamemess" back to "mess" or it crashed much worse.
Indeed it will crash as it can't find the emulator core under that name.

Here is the deal :
Always try with standalone mame first.
If that works you know your roms are correct and you can move to lr-mess.
So first let me know if standalone mame works or not. -

But why wouldn't it, as it's still there from before, running all the other emulators I installed from your script in the same way?

You told me that it crashed worse when the name
mamemess_libretro.so
is in the runcommand.
So my reaction was :
Indeed it will crash as it can't find the emulator core under that name as yours ismess_libretro.so

@Folly But I edited the EMULATORS.CFG to tell it to look for mess_libretro.so (which is there, running the other systems) rather than mamemess_libretro.so (which isn't there, because I've never installed it).
This is what my EMULATORS.CFG for the PMD85-1 looks like:

@Folly The PMD85 booted up in MAME, but the game didn't run when I typed MGLD 00.

@JimmyFromTheBay said in Tesla PMD-85 computer in RetroPie?:
@Folly The PMD85 booted up in MAME, but the game didn't run when I typed MGLD 00.
First you have to do the MGLD 00 and then you have to go into the mame menu with the tab key and go to "tape control" and press "play" in order to load the cassette.
Let me know if it works. In the mame menu you can also find the version number.
Go to "About MAME".
Please provide them for both standalone mame and lr-mess.
For lr-mess you can use a system that works in order to get it.I have a simple idea to let you run almost the latest lr-mess without interfering with your install.
Will test my idea first on my computer and let you know if it can work.
However I need to know what the underlying OS of your RetroPie image is.
Can you provide the output of this command ? :lsb_release -s -i -d -r -c
-
@Folly It's Raspbian 10 Buster.
And the game runs in MAME now, many thanks :)
-
Do you want to know the idea to use almost the latest lr-mess without interfering with your setup ?
Or are you happy with standalone mame ? -
@Folly I would love to know :)
-
Well, just like with windows it doesn't actually matter where your program is located.
So here you can find all collected binaries, my builds from source or backups from RetroPie and libretro buildbot.
So you can just download a binary.
For instance you should be able to use :
lr-mess_0.264_arm7l_gcc8_rpi4_probably_missing_drivers_RP_bin.7z
Then decompress it and place the lr-mess folder in, for example, Downloads, like this :
/home/pi/Downloads/lr-mess
That way you don't need root permissions.
You could rename the lr-mess folder into lr-mess0264 so you will know what version is in the folder, so it becomes :
/home/pi/Downloads/lr-mess0264
Then make your own runcommand in the emulators.cfg, for example :lr-mess0264-pmd851-cass = "/opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/bin/retroarch --config /opt/retropie/configs/pmd851/retroarch.cfg --appendconfig /opt/retropie/configs/pmd851/retroarch.cfg.add -S /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/pmd851 -s /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/pmd851 -v -L /home/pi/Downloads/lr-mess0264/mamemess_libretro.so 'pmd851 -rompath /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/mame;/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/pmd851/ -cfg_directory /opt/retropie/configs/pmd851/lr-mess -c -ui_active -cass %ROM%'"
You will see that only the program folder will differ from the "original" runcommand (and for you the core name too).
For above runcommand the hash folder should not be needed.
You can keep the hash foler just in there, no need to copy it.Well that is the basic idea.
I tested it here and it did work for me switching between versions.Remember, do it for your own risk.
Don't blame me if somehow something goes wrong.
Then again, in my opinion there isn't much that can go wrong.Let me know if it works for you.
Btw.
Newer lr-mess versions lack some drivers.
Not sure why, but I assume they removed drivers that are not important for the libretro core developers or they just don't have the proper tools to make a full accurate database.
Anyhow if the pmd851 isn't there you can try an older binary, for example 0251. -
@Folly Thanks very much, will give that a try :)
