Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross for that matter. Both innovative and fun; add in a pioneering new game+ feature and multiple endings for excellent replay value.
I did beat Chrono Trigger back in 2002, but today I discovered that there are so many different endings. I never played Chrono Cross but that game is on my list too, it has many different endings so there goes my social life :D

For me it has to be the Mario series, I was brought up with the NES and they were my favorite. Closely followed by the Zelda franchise - I got a Wii simple to play Twilight Princess!
-
Very Retro: Contra
Retro: Mortal Kombat 2 Arcade
Recent: Killer Instinct 2013, RainbowSix Siege -
Crash Bandicoot and Portal II!
-
For me it would be Chrono Trigger and Legend of Zelda.

My all time favorite is Wizardry Bane of the Cosmic Forge an the Amiga 500.
-
Favourite is Oh Mummy for Amstrad CPC
There is a free port for the Genesis/Mega Drive available and this really kicks ass :)
Because you can choose the play the original CPC version or the advanced "Genesis"-version -

Crash Team Racing on PSX is my favourite, but I also cant get enough of Sonic on the megadrive
I am tempted to go and try "The Match" on the Amstrad but want to avoid it as its always such a good memory and I don't want to ruin that.

I just got Hyrule Historia! Now I can see how one of my favorite games were made!

I'm a bit of a masochist, so I'd have to claim 'The Goonies II' as my favorite game. I can 100% it on one life in a little over two hours just about every time. For quick pick up and play fun, I really love the original 'WarioWare'. It's a video game about playing video games. What's not to like?

General Chaos for MegaDrive. I loved using a team of 5 machine gunners to lay waste to the other side.

Tricky one!
For a long time, I would probably have said Robocop from the arcade, as I ploughed a lot of coins into that one and could eventually complete it in 20 mins on one credit.
But it's a bit samey, so for the variety offered by the different hero selection, I'm going to go for the mighty Golden Axe!
The sequel was good too, but the original still wins!
But now with Retropie making an almost limitless supply of games available, what do I actually play most often?
Actually this 1979 classic!
I'm still sticking with Golden Axe though.

Wonderboy would have to be my all time favourite. Wonderboy in Monsterland is also good but not quite on par. Wardener is also another platformer thats on par, certainly plowed some coins into that one.
Other honourable mentions are Shinobi, Ghosts and Goblins, Galaga and Track and Field is a fun one to play with friends.
When it comes to playing with mates, the Streetfighter battles are epic.
