So using a keyboard to start with, I was able to configure SMW to recognize my 8bitdo controllers for players 1 and 2. I can navigate the menus without issues on both controllers. But when I go to play the game, any button I hit (even ones that weren't mapped, like the L and R buttons) go to (what I assume is) the pause screen, showing the type of match it is (10 minute standard match, 30 pt CTF, whatever). After hitting the button again, the character jumps or otherwise does what button was pressed. The directions work without issue, and the exit button (Select, in this case) also works.

Is it possible there's other controller settings that need to be assigned somewhere? When the players select characters and things, there's no "doubling up," or accidentally controlling another user's selections.

As an update, I was able to successfully play using a wired Logitech controller. Would there be anything in a config file that'd have the 8bitdo controllers double mapped to something?

I've also encountered this problem when trying to use my 8bitdo Nes30 gamepad :-(

I’m having this issue with Xbox one Bluetooth controllers. Anyone ever find a fix?
