Hey guys, I’m so lost here. So I had a couple of pi4 boards and got a RetroPie image. At first the pi4 kept giving me message indicating that a newer software is required. So I followed the steps and flashed the board with the solid green light. It was an older bootloader I believe Sept 4 2020. My previous Pi4 boards were bought years ago and all have flashed easily.

I’ve bought a few pi4 boards from Amazon and the bootloader says 2023, so I tried to flash them again to 2020 but I just get a blank screen and doesn’t flash? Why can’t the same pi4 image work on any pi4? I understand a pi3 image can’t work on pi4 and same goes the other way around. Any help would be awesome! I’m just so lost here lol. I feel like I’m missing something very simple here…

Are you using the latest official image from here?

We don't support 3rd party RetroPie images, try the image from https://retropie.org.uk/download and report back if you still have the same issue.

@mitu sorry should have been more clear, the image I was referring to was a RetroPie image emulationStation. The exact same image worked on my other pi4 boards.

Not clear enough: Is the image in question the image from https://retropie.org.uk/download or not ?

@sugarfree sorry to confirm it’s a RetroPie image emulationStation. The same image works on my older pi4 boards. Appreciate the quick response!

@mitu not from that site. It’s an image I have for retro gaming. Same image works on a previous pi4 I have. Is there a way I can flash the bootloader to a later date? Picture below is the pi4 that is not working as it looks like it has a newer bootloader date. Hopefully this is clearer. Appreciate the help!

Sorry not sure how to add an image. But the pi4 that’s not working says 2023, the one that works says 2020 sept 3.

OK, so it's a 3rd party image. As said before, we don't support those and you can see why we don't - they don't always work.

Please use the image from https://retropie.org.uk/download and you'll have no issues on any Pi4 models. Topic closed - if you still have questions/issues with the official image, please open a new topic.
