Nope. Works perfectly fine for me. No issues at all.

Just played past level 2 into level 3 and no issues whatsoever. There is no update needed.

I literally just posted above exactly what process I went through. I'm on a Pi 5. I would imagine that anything lower than that may have issues. And if you're on a Pi 4 or lower, you probably shouldn't be.

I've played through at least 3-4 levels in the game now with zero issues. Not a single glitch or anything. I don't think the problem is the emulator core.

@TPR yeah im guessing your right... but already give up with this issue and hoping i can finally fully play the game on when fba version its releseased...

FBNeo used genplus-gx's paprium implementation as a starting point for FBNeo's implementation, so i can tell there are problems with genplus-gx's implementation, one of them was explained on FBNeo's forum.
I'm also not entirely sure how well this genplus-gx implementation support savestates and savestate-based features (runahead, netplay, rewind, ...) -
@roslof Thanks, I've tried so many things, most of the time when selecting a character it goes back to the game selection, sometimes before. Now the only problem is when I reset from the minigame, I hear the background noise. MP3s are fine, but that noise is unnerving! I have a PI3B+.

A bit of warning about paprium, it can end up using quite a lot of ram : everytime it needs to play a mp3, it'll buffer it into ram after decoding it, for a total of 2.1GB if it plays all 50 tracks. If you don't have enough free ram, best case scenario it won't play the song, worst case your device might become unstable.
-
@barbudreadmon may that be the reason i cant make it pass level 2? I have a raspberry pi 3b+

@nestor1924 Linux will kill the process with the highest memory usage if it ever run out of ram, it is extremely likely that this is what's happening to you.
One possible workaround would be to add a swap file to your os : https://linuxize.com/post/create-a-linux-swap-file/
Keep in mind this will be "ram on the sd card", which might wear out your sd card prematurely.Another possible workaround would be to play the game without sound by removing the mp3s.

@barbudreadmon I think for now ill wait and see if the Fbn versiob works for me when its released, if not ill get the Pi5, ill try the no MP3 to see if it works.

FBNeo, instead of loading mp3s "on demand" like that genplus-gx hack does, loads everything at boot to prevent the "hanging" issue mentioned on our forum. To speed-up loading it was also decided to convert those mp3s to our samples format (meaning a zip file containing .wav). The total requirement for running this game with samples will be around 2.5GB ram (minus 2.1GB if you remove the samples).

Paprium is now playable in FBNeo.

@barbudreadmon i see, is there anyway you can explain to me how can i set this up on retropie emulation station? Just a quick step by step where to put the folders and files?
-
- Put you paprium.bin rom into a zip archive named paprium.zip
- Put that archive in your retropie megadrive folder
- Optional, launch the game once with FBNeo, go to dipswitches in core options, set the song preload dipswitch to "on demand", quit FBNeo <= it will lower memory usage and is probably required in your case, do that BEFORE installing the samples since you might not be able to launch the game anymore after instaalling them
- Convert your paprium .mp3 files into .wav using whatever software is available to you, put them in a zip archive named paprium.zip
- Put that newly created sample archive into the FBNeo samples folder (note:
SYSTEM_DIRECTORY
should be your retropie bios folder)
Also, make sure your FBNeo is up-to-date from sources.
