Gba emulator issues - Gpsp and lr-gpsp
-
Hi everyone,
I just finished the pi grrl zero project from adafruit (https://learn.adafruit.com/pigrrl-zero/overview) and I have some problems with the gba emulator. I use a pi zero v1.3 and the Ready-To-Go Raspberry Pi IMG from adafruit website.
My issues are:- When I launch a rom with gpsp a white screen appear and I can't do anything.
- When I launch a rom with lr-gpsp some rom goes straight back to the menu interface
- I can't find configuration files to change save type for dragon ball the legacy of goku II
I don't have other emulator and my files are set like this: home/pi/Retropie or Retropie-Setup or rpi-fbcp
Thanks for your help
Thomas

Hi Thomas,
Do you have the GBA bios inside your bios folder? If not that explains the rom going back to the menu. -
gpsp has always been flaky for me. Can you install mGBA on your Zero?
-
mgba is disabled on the pi1/zero - I may enable it (not as default) as I think having some emulators disabled on the rpi1 causes confusion - and so I'm happy to let people try themselves, but I doubt it will be usable.

Hey guys! Thank you for answering!
@jimblazin Yes I put the GBA bios inside the bios folder. I check the hashing and it's ok.
@BuZz I would like to try to install mgba on my zero. Is there a tuto or something to help me with the installation?
Also Is there a place where I could change the save type for lr-gpsp? (I read something here https://forums.emulator-zone.com/showthread.php?t=9047 that says I have to change the save type) -
@thomasc if you update RetroPie-Setup you will be able to install it. It will be slow though I think.

I know I'm coming in pretty late here, but another thing I read is that for emulators OTHER than mgba, the game files must be unzipped. I was having close to this same issue last night so I installed and switched to mgba, and it "worked," but most games were really laggy and the Excitebike main menu in particular looked like crap. I'll try this tonight when I get home and hopefully get gpsp working.
(edit - Just read that lr-gpsp does accept .zip, and realized MY problem is probably just that I'm missing the BIOS file, but I'll leave this here anyway, because gpsp does NOT support .zip, so this could still TECHNICALLY be someone's problem) -
ZIP files cause headaches on some emulators that may or may not support the specific ZIP format that archive is in, so to avoid any ZIP issues I have unzipped ALL archives so that the ROM is there for the emulator to load without having to spend extra time extracting the ZIP archive to a temporary file then loading that. This all causes emulator slowdowns, even just a small one it all adds up, plus if you're using purely an SD card or USB pendrive to run everything from it will be even slower. Also an increased risk or SD card corruption with all those read/writes on an SD card
The only archives I leave alone are the arcade ones, these MUST be left zipped or WILL fail. MAME, FBA and NEOGEO are the main 3
I use OSMC with KODI and RetroPie so have it run everything from an external USB hard drive, the only function the SD card performs is booting the PI 3 B I use at the moment then control is passed onto OSMC which runs off the USB hard drive so being much faster and much less chance of SD card corruption. I know thats not possible for everybody especially if you have a portable RetroPie in a handheld where space is very limited
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
