Possible Corrupt SD? Apple OSX
-
Hi guys,
I seem to be having an issue with installing Retropie on to my 32GB Micro SD. This is my first RPi so everything is new to me, but I have successfully managed to install Retropie on an 8GB Micro SD, set it up and play games so I know that what I'm doing is right.
I'm using ApplePi-Baker for install but it seems to be sitting in idle for a long time. If I try to eject in the usual Apple way by dragging the icon on the desktop to the trash, i get a pop-up telling me that the device is in use and I could damage it by ejecting. Equally, if I try to load the SD in Disk Utility and erase it, it fails and cannot mount the card.
This is what I've been staring at for the last 40 minutes now:
Dose this sound like a corrupt card? As I say, I have an 8GB card and have been through the same process to install Retropie which has worked, but this just hangs and hangs.
Thoughts anybody?

I'm going to put it down to a corrupt card: I've been in contact with the seller and they're happy to replace it FOC so I'm not going to investigate further. If the new one arrives and does the same then I'll need to look into it...

@Danorak1981 if it is a crappy bootleg you will get another crappy bootleg that isnt as big as the card claims to be. Personally i avoid ebay for memory cards. I just buy them at walmart to guarantee a legit card. I can deal with paying $10-$12 for a legit 16gb card.

Download h2testw (Windows Tool)
or File Read Test - Native Java so Linux, Windows and Mäc -
@cyperghost Thanks for the link. I downloaded the program but the card won't even mount so I can't use it, but handy to know about that app though so cheers for the heads up!
@edmaul69 I don't think it was a knock-off: it was fully retail packaged. I used to work in a photo lab behind a camera selling point, and it wasn't uncommon to have the odd memory card come back with a fault. The new one was dispatched today, so when it arrives i'll fire up ApplePi-Baker and see if it does the same. If it does, then I know there's something dodgy going on. If it does, I'll just report them to eBay: not that eBay will do much about it, but i'll get my money back at the very least. I'm not too annoyed at the moment as I'm running a basic setup with an 8GB card: if I had no access to another card then I would have been peeved.
When the new one arrives, I'll run h2 and see what it reports back...

@Danorak1981 you would be surprised how well the packaging is done on a bootleg card. I have seen so many bootleg items over the years while doing repairs at a video game store. I have learned how to detect the differences in bootleg products in most cases, but most people cant tell the difference.
