@edmaul69 Can you plug the drive into a "regular" computer to see if it works? Also, in the system information it may give you the IDs you need. With it being an optical drive I can see it having some hefty power requirements.

@obsidianspider to get it to take a disk i had to reboot my pc to get it to take a disk in while it was out of windows so i know it functions. I dont have a 64 bit windows to run it but i know it functions now. Now it is just trying to understand linux enough to fix my issue here.

Out of curiosity, why do you need an optical drive for RetroPie?

I don't know if the SuperDrive can read DVDs but you could probably use it to watch DVD movies in Kodi.

It's a hassle but what I've been doing for the old DOS CD based games is ripping them to an ISO and just mounting that as the CD drive for DOSBox.

Or another thing I did was just copy the contents of the CD to a folder and just had DOSBox set that folder up as a CD drive! This worked great for Death Gate!

Last you could probably get the no-cd crack for the game but I hate searching for these because the websites you get them from are so shady and sometimes you're downloading a virus instead. Also some of the no-cd's are for older (or newer) version of the game then what I've got so they cause problems.

@backstander i do know i can do all that. I just want to be able to use a disc for cd based dos games. I chose the superdrive because my pi is in an apple iie case and i modded the apple monitor ii to a 15" flatscreen tv. I put my 1tb hard drive in an apple modem 300. And i wanted to have a disc drive for some retro dos goodness. If i get bored i might try to set up a floppy drive. Too bad apple didnt make a usb one so i will have to use my sony one.

VST made a few that you might find attractive. Although tracking one down might be difficult.

@mediamogul i hate the clear macs. I found a nice silver drive that will match the superdrive. I do have paint that matches the original apple iie's color so i might paint it. I have the metal apple logos that i took off of the shattered apple monitor ii that i received last month so i could make it look old school.

Ah, I gotchya. I don't mind them so much for the right project. I re-purposed my old purple iMac into an aquarium. It looks great at night with internal lighting.
