Thought everyone would like to see this, people are working to get Linux running on this system.

I found it amusing that under the hood this thing is running a quad-core ARM. Must have been the most cost effective chip Nintendo could get. This is way more processing muscle than is needed to play 30 NES games. The unit can do so much more than this, but I think the 256 MB of RAM will be a real limiting factor here. Surely a single ARM would have been able to do the same thing, but they probably couldn't get a single core chip as cheap would be my guess.

Does anyone know how much built-in storage space the NES Classic Mini has?
I'm sure someone is going to figure out a way to solder on a USB port or add more storage another way.
-
@backstander I read that it has 512 MB of internal flash where the lightweight OS and the ROM's are stored.

That's not much room for RetroPie and ROMs ;-)

If someone manages to fry theirs I'll gladly take the case and put a Pi 3 in it.

@obsidianspider , you can also print a case. Daftmike has a very good Mini NES which I'm using to build one: http://www.daftmike.com/2016/07/NESPi.html

@markus It's way more fun chopping stuff up though!!!

I wouldn't be surprised if they release an SNES Classic Mini with the exact same specs lol.

Looks like a modder by the name of Madmonkey on a Russian forum has figured out how to add extra games (total of 60) to the NES Mini. The exploit involves connecting the console to a computer via a USB cable and then booting it into "FEL" mode. Madmonkey's tool is called "hakchi". Another modder named Cluster has put together a streamlined version of this tool called "hakchi2".
