I have a 3 B pie that I ordered with a preloaded card with retropie everything worked untill I rebooted retropie then my keyboard and controllers were not found so I figured I would just reinstall retropie I downloaded 4.1 from the website reformted the sd card in ext4 in ubuntu and used unnetbootin to remake the SD card but now when I plug it in to the pi and boot I get no connection to the tv I have tried 3 different TV's so I dont believe that is the issue along with another HDMI cable.

@lrry491 glad to see you got the official image (who knows what 3rd parties have put on their illegal copies...) I had issues myself using unetbootin to create a bootable SD. A reformat isn't necessarily required as long as the image is written properly.

If you are on Ubuntu you should be able to right click on the extracted .img file and select open with disk image writer and write it that way, may be a little easier.
