Stratagus Tutorial needed

That worked for me perfectly thxs. The creators of this engine and work do good work but are kinda disorganized. They say they have 3 or 4 different official locations to download their work but every location is hosting a different version. And from reading around I learned that out of the 4 only one of the versions will work doing this work around useing windows to get the needed files from the game. That is version 2.4.1 from the site/link backstander has posted all other versions will result in a black screen and crash back to the game selection screen.
That maybe your problem did you use version 2.4.1 of wargus? But thats just a wild guess. Its most likely you don't have one or more of the dependencies installed to get the game to run.
-
@CptKlink
I'm using 2.4.1, downloaded it yesterday from https://wargus.github.io/I'll download it again now and post results.
-
Now i ran in to another problem. I jad the game running and working but i desided to try and turn on some of the in game settings and now i'm getting the black screen and crash again. I tried just deleting the whole wargus folder and re-transfering the default game back over but that diden't fix it.
Anybody know where the settings file would be located?
-
Just reinstalled it on Windows and tested it again on the raspberry. My file structure is now looking exactly like it should (with the video folder and without the contrib and shader folders). Maybe I've used the unstable build on the first try, now I've been using 2.4.1 stable. Works like a charm under Windows.
But It wont work on the raspberry. I still get the libmikmod.so.3 error :(
-
this is the error i'm getting now.
Parameters: Executing: /opt/retropie/emulators/stratagus/stratagus -F -d "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/stratagus/wargus.data" Couldn't set 1024x768x32 video mode: OpenGL not available
-
Yep all this work trying to get it running and now its broken for me. I just tried deleting everything i can find for stratagus and wargus and reinstalling it all and still getting the same error.
-

I did some searching on my Pi and I found this file with settings in it:
/home/pi/.stratagus/wc2/preferences.lua
Maybe try editing that or deleting it and see if it will recreate it with defaults when you run Stratagus.
Update
I just move that preferences.lua file somewhere else and then ran Stratagus and it recreated it with the defaults.

hate to ask a noob question but what does the . mean in front of stratagus in /home/pi/.stratagus/wc2/preferences.lua ?
Update
Nevermind I found it I forgot to set WinSCP to show hidden files and folders.

Unix OS's use this to indicate a "hidden directory"

One problem to another. Got it all working now but now i can't move my character's.

I have posted my Warcraft II directions to the Wiki:

A system update solved my problem, WC2 is now working :)

Hi all,
Has anyone managed to get StarCraft up and running with Stratagus? I've managed to get Warcraft 1 and Warcraft 2 working great, however I'm hitting the same issue that @crowi was seeing on 09/08/16 in regards to StarCraft after following the same steps for Warcraft (using Stargus instead of Wargus for data extraction).
Setup info:
Pi Model or other hardware: Raspberry Pi 3
Power Supply used: 5V/3A power adaptor.
RetroPie Version Used: 4.1 image, updated to 4.1.11 retropie_script
Built From: 4.1 image from RetroPie website
USB Devices connected: Rapoo T-Series keyboard and wireless mouse with dongle.
Controller used: Bluetooth WiiU Pro controller
Emulator: Stratagus (updated through binary)
Guide used: https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/StratagusRuncommand.log:
--- start of joystick-selection log joystick selection by name is ON! joystick indexes for "all" was configured --- end of joystick-selection log Parameters: Executing: /opt/retropie/emulators/stratagus/stratagus -F -d "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/stratagus/starcraft.data" [string "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/stratagus/starcraft...."]:86: attempt to call global 'SetMetaServer' (a nil value) stack traceback: [string "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/stratagus/starcraft...."]:86: in main chunk
Thanks very much!

I was having the same issue with starcraft as most people on this forum. I have checked the sizes of the folders, Warcraft 1 is 15.6mb, Warcraft 2 is 40Mb and Starcraft (which works via Stargus on windows 7 x64) is 1.86mb. Now the install file alone to make Starcraft work on the pc is 587mb so Stargus has to be keeping the files it need to run Starcraft elsewhere which is why Starcraft isn't working but Warcraft 1 and 2 are.
So I did some more digging and if you are in windows if you go to %users/profile name/appdata/roaming/stratagus/ you will see a data.stargus folder as well as sc, wc1,wc2. The folder size of the data.stargus folder is 520mb and there isn't a data folder for Warcraft or Warcraft 2. The data we need to run starcraft on the pi is in that data.stargus folder. Take the folders in the data.stargus folder and place them in the roms\stratagus\starcraft.data folder on the pi. I also had already copied the folders that are in C:\program files (x86)\stargus (assuming your using windows) to the starcraft.data folder to the pi so I'm not sure if you really need those or not.
I have confirmed this to work on my retropi
Whats weird is I cant do a campaign game, only these preset maps. Campaign is greyed out even though I own the registered version of this game and it works fine on my pc
Setup info:
Pi Model or other hardware: Raspberry Pi 3 model b
Power Supply used: 5V/3A power adaptor.
RetroPie Version Used: 4.1 image
Built From: 4.1 image from RetroPie website
USB Devices connected: lenovo usb keyboard and dell usb mouse
Controller used: snes knock off controller for snes console with usb adapter and/or 8bitdo bluetooth snes
Emulator: Stratagus (updated through binary)
Guide used: https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Stratagus -
Confirmed working on my Pi as well following the same steps. Copied over all the data from C:\Program Files\stargus into roms\stratagus\starcraft.data and then copied the remaining data from %users/profile name/appdata/roaming/stratagus/ into roms\stratagus\starcraft.data as well.
That's now working great, so thanks so much @polygaryd hugely appreciated!

Says campaigns don't work (yet) I've updated the wiki page with more details on installing starcraft:

So I guess if the campaign for Starcraft doesn't work people are playing online multiplayer or something like that?
I gave up on Stratagus for Warcraft II (I run that through DOSBox now), but would like to get Starcraft (which is Windows 95? only, right?) running at some point in time as it's a good game (and I even still have my old CD for it!).
-
Maybe somebody build a Win95 or a Win98 Emulator with 3d-acceleration support?
Starcraft would run smoothly on something like that.An emulator or a virtual machine would give us the chance to run all the nice games of that century, but it would be only an option for Retropie-x86 users.
Is anybody here with experiences?
Greetings
Nicke

@Nickelino
Here on this thread there is discussion about installing Windows 95 in Dosbox:
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/post/67700There wouldn't be any OpenGL or DirectX support.
Or you can pay $25 for ExaGear:
https://eltechs.com/product/exagear-desktop/
I've never used it so I don't know how well it works. -
@backstander I am personally against people capitalising on projects meant for learning. I wrote up the guide on getting stargus running in direct response to self promoting hoo hahs going "lookie here everybody! Play your old games! just pay us this bucket of money to do so!"
Im also not sure how much compliance they are in with licences of what they use. Hard to know being closed source...
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
