Amiga Games not starting
-
Hello,
I am new to Retropie. I successfully installed games for NES, Megadrive etc., no problems at all.
To install Amiga, I followed the instructions on the GitHub Retropie-Setup page for Amiga (https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Amiga) to install UAE4ALL2.The retrieved to the kickstart ROMs from the Android Amiga Forever Essentials and copied them into the /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/ folder. The ADF files were uploaded into /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/amiga/.
The AMIGA emulator is correctly shown on Retropie's start screen. When starting the Amiga emulator, I followed the instructions in several YouTube videos (the top ones, if you search for "Retropie Amiga") and tried various settings (memory, sound, kickstart).
But always I am experiencing the same problem: loading seems to stuckFor two ADFs I at least managed to get a little success:
- Turrican: I get to see the short vendor demo ("Rainbow Arts"), also with sound, then TV screen stays black again
- Workbench: The initial blue AmigaDos loading windows is shown, but loading seems to stop; workbench does not appear.
I also waited for 5-10 minutes, without success.
Mostly the whole screen stays black at all.
No error messages in log.Did I maybe chose the wrong / incompatible games for emulation? Are there games that are particularly well suited for emulation?
Since I already have quite some experience with Linux and Raspberry PIs, I have he feeling, that I have some particular aspect not yet in my view...
My setup is:
- Raspberry Pi 3 Model B
- TV via HDMI
- Wireless Logitech USB Mouse connected
- XBox 360 USB game controller
- Guides followed:
Any hints are very welcome!
Kind regards,
Sascha. -
Hi,
I've had similar problems when trying to run an Amiga emulator. I've found the process of using the emulators somewhat clunky through RetroPi/EmulationStation.
A few pointers to try:
-
Use UAE4All instead of UEA4Arm as I've found UAE4All to load most games without a black screen. I usually use an A500 kick start.
-
Try another copy of the game, some Amiga ADF files have been cracked and don't work well. Look for some clean Amiga roms, they aren't so easy to find online.
I've struggled getting multi disk games to load reliably.
Another issue is mapping USB SNES joypad a real pain to do on UAE4Arm, just wouldn't like the mappings or save them. UAE4All seems to save the configuration with some luck.
Overall, my experience hasn't been that great using the Amiga emulator. Using the older defunked UAE4All frontend seems to be more reliable.
If anyone has anymore pointers and tips please share.
