Retropie read PSX disk

Is it possible to have the Retropie read directly from disk?
I would love to save space and just use the disks I have for PSX... But having issues getting it to even recognize the Disk drive
Running a Pi3
Overclocked 1350Disk drive is a OEM DVD drive
H+L model GH40NPlugged into a powered USB Port

try to use the storage in fat32 might work

Can't change the disk format (it's an official PSX disk)
And not sure how to get it to recognize the files
