Network Roms storage?

Hi!
Im new to all this retropie but I just order a raspberry pi 3 to run this. On my pc I already have my rom folder sorted by system (X:\roms\snes, X:\roms\nes.. etc ) I search the web for a solution to just link retropie but I found to many different ways. So I came here to ask what is the best and correct way to do it.
I guess the first step is to share my folder with write permission since save states probably needs to write on disk.
Then what?
