Emulation Station Will Not Load During Setup

I was excited to build a RetroPi, and used the YouTube tutorial at

. Everything goes well until I get to the part where EmulationStation is supposed to load. The loading screen flashes on VERY briefly, to brief to read in fact (perhpaps 1/5 of a second), then it goes black and my TV informs me that there is no signal. I've reformated and re-imahed the disc at least 7 times at this point and always have the same result. Sometimes if I remove the power from the RaspberryPi and plug it back up the terminal displays again, but I cannot get it to even try and load emulationstation again. I have no issues using Putty to SSH into my Pi. Can anyone assist?

I am using:
RaspberryPi 3 Model B
Kingston Digital 64GB microSDXC Class 10 UHS-I 45MB/s Read Card with SD Adapter (SDC10G2/64GB)
Full 5V 2.5A Power Adapter, Micro USB Cable
Display is Samsung 55" Class 2160p 4K 120Hz Smart UHD TV - Black (UN55JU6400FXZA)
Latest RetroPie image from this site for RaspberryPi 2/3 (RetroPie is v3.7)

Please help! :(

ssh in
sudo nano /boot/config.txt
add this to the end of the file
hdmi_safe=1
ctrl + x then y then enter
sudo reboot

see if this works, if it does then we can proceed to check further, g'luck

Thanks for replying so quickly, greatly appreciated. Unfortunately this didn't fix the issue. Now my TV never gets a signal to begin with. I did a test with an older TV upstairs which did display everything correctly before the attempted fix, so you are on the right track, it seems.

@pdmayton I know some people have had issues with emulationstation not displaying properly on 4k displays so you'd have to force the resolution of the pi down to 1080p maybe http://elinux.org/RPi_config.txt

I'm just realizing that I cannot undo the change you asked me to make - sorry I'm a novice Linux user. When trying to display the config txt to remove and save the change I just get:

"GNU nano 2.2.6 File: boot/config.txt Modified"

@herb_fargus Looks like hdmi_mode=16 would possible fix the issue - would would mind helping me display the txt file so I can take a stab at it?

Just remove th SD card put it in your PC, Windows can see the file as well. Open it and configure it how you want save it and put it back in your Pi.

@pdmayton winscp is another option too but many files need elevated privileges see: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/FAQ#why-cant-i-ssh-as-root-anymore but the terminal is a good thing to know.

So this project is turning into more of a project than I had initially anticipated, but I'm getting there. First the TV issue (which I am still working on getting working on my 4K TV), I had immense trouble getting the machine to recognize the buttons on a PS3 controller - if just wouldn't recognize the input from my controllers. I ended up manually placing a config file from someone else and one of my 3 controllers was happy with it. Next my SNES games wouldn't show up - fixed this one (Emulator on Pi didn't like zipped file). Also having trouble getting my bluetooth to pair with my Pi - even when using a dongle and turning off the built-in bluetooth, which I understand is screwed on the Pi 3.

Has anyone here had any luck getting 2 PS3 controllers working via Bluetooth at once? Impossible? Next to impossible?

UPDATE: I've been screwing around with this damn thing for a few days now. and found limited success. The most success I have gotten is by adding the following to my config file:

Config_hdmi_boot=10 results in my display working mostly correct (may need to mess with overscan settings) for a couple of minutes, then my TV loses the signal and it doesn't return.

Config_hdmi_boost=11 results in my display mostly working (the initial screen displaying the the raspberries up top does not appear, everything else does). Eemulationstation displays for the overwhelming majority of the time, occasionally blinking out for about 5-10 seconds after many minutes of use, then the signal returns. Seems like it is ALMOST enough to work correctly.

Config_hdmi_boost=12 Does not work at all. No signal found. Same for anything over 12, up to 15. 7 works for a couple of brief seconds. 8, for a few seconds, 8 for a half minuteish, 9 for a minute or so.

Posting not only hoping for any more suggestions, but also in hopes that this may prove useful to someone else in the future. I have not attempted using this machine on other displays yet.

Looks like my limited success is becoming more and more limited. Now, without changing any settings in the config.txt file the signal lasts for 2-3 minutes, then goes black, then goes to no signal at all. The only change I have made is adding roms to the roms folders.
