When I discovered the emulators some years ago I almost cried just because I was able to play this game again. :-)
And I was really happy because I could take screenshots of the password screen instead of writing down that paragraph password. -
When I discovered the emulators some years ago I almost cried just because I was able to play thos game again. :-)
And I was really happy because I could take screenshots of the password screen instead of writing down that paragraph password.Oh I hated putting in those password but I actually got pretty fast at it after awhile. This got more annoying because now I had to enter in the passwords for both players when playing cooperatively with friends lol.
Did you hear about the New River City Ransom Password Discovered After 27 Years?
River City Ransom EX on the Gameboy Advance has a built in save function and bug fixes and new moves and some new updated animations. You can even play with the AI controlled 2nd player. I would highly recommend it if you're a fan of the original!
(I don't know why they don't pick up coins in this video) -
@backstander I didn't know that password!
The GBA version neither. And I'm happy that it has achievements. http://retroachievements.org/Game/2509 -
I totally forgot about Ninja Baseball Batman, I played this game a while ago on the Pi and I forgot its name. This game is freaking AWESOME! Anyways there are 4 games on the PSX I would like to mention:
- Legend; My brother rented this one back in the 90ties and we played the crap out of it.
- Crisis Beat; this game was hillarious just like the title above my brother rented this one, I have this one on the Pi.
- Shaolin (EU)/Lord of Fist (US); This game is a fighting/rpg style game, not entirely a beat m up but is worth mentioning it. If you like Chinese Martial Arts you will love this game. It has great story lines. In the US the game was released under a different title Lord of Fist.
- Jojo's Bizarre Adventure; A fighting/beat m up game. The story line is great, one of the best fighting games on the PSX in my opinion. If you love fighting games and the PSX you really should give this game a try.

Thanks for the contributions guys, ah double dragon 3 i actually had this game too, was tough! & tekken force mode.. so so good!
Theres a few ive never even heard of there so will get them onto my rpi3 to play. Didn't even know the jojo game had like a shoot em up element to it, thought it was just 1 on 1 fighting, must say this made me chuckle lol..Now my latest discovery (if they boot) are a series called 'BOR: Beats Of Rage' for the dreamcast, they look incredibly cool & vary from a king of fighters, xmen, resident evil & street fighter beat em ups (theres loads more too). Oh & a streets of rage remake!!
Im yet to try them out but they are next on my to do list. -
Now my latest discovery (if they boot) are a series called 'BOR: Beats Of Rage' for the dreamcast
Now that sounds like OpenBOR which is in the experimental install section of RetroPie. It's not working very well right now because it is a very old build. I guess it got ported to the Dreamcast as well.
I can't find the link butsomeone was talking about using the old MS-DOS port of OpenBOR to play the BOR PAKs in Dosbox which works pretty good. I'm curious to see if the Dreamcast versions run any better.Update: here is the thread talking about OpenBOR for Dosbox/MS-DOS:
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/5618/guess-who-got-open-m-f-ing-bor-beats-of-rage-to-workAlso in the RetroPie-Extra addon script, you can get the Streets of Rage Remake!
-
@greenhulk haha the first image looks soooo WRONG!!!! Looks like a game in which you have to fight against the semen to avoid pregnancy haha. "Dont let anything come out of it!!!".
Jojo has also mini games in the story mode, the game is so freaking awesome. There are so many things to unlock, it should keep you busy for the couple days (if played with cheats) else couple weeks lol.
-
@PetroRie lol it is rather phallic.. I hope it doesnt harnass any 'special abilities', I have the neo geo versions but didnt know about the psx one so will get that later on.
Having no luck with the BOR stuff out of about 4 different ones only one loaded up past menu's (and went blank after.) I cant seem to find the SOR remake, maybe im looking in the wrong place?
Anyway, yet another co-op beat em up discovery.. Had a quick playthrough theres some fun bosses & stages!
Warrior Blade: Rastan Saga III - MAME/Arcade
-
@greenhulk
Nice find on Warrior Blade: Rastan Saga III. I had played that a long time ago and had forgot about it!Having no luck with the BOR stuff out of about 4 different ones only one loaded up past menu's (and went blank after.)
That's what I was worried would happen. You should give the MS-DOS version a try!
I cant seem to find the SOR remake, maybe im looking in the wrong place?
It's not built into RetroPie and you have to go to this site for the instructions to add this "Extra" script:
https://github.com/zerojay/RetroPie-ExtraThe only issue I had with SOR Remake was how to exit the game and get back to EmulationStation.

Great list and discussion! This is the cleanest list of beat em' ups I've seen yet! Thank you! I can't get night slashers to boot either! Does anyone have any insight on that? I really want to play that game.
-
@quirk_unlimited thank you, this is all i keep getting when trying to load it, just goes to blank screen after that. Ive tried another version of it but wont boot at all
-
@greenhulk Same here! I've tried every version (clone/region) for mame2003 and advance mame none of them will load. And I am using the right romset with the right emulator. I've even tried the wrong roms. I've done searches on here for insight and all I've found are a couple people mentioning how good it is. But thanks again for this list!
-
BTW I wanted to add two more GBA titles
Gekido Advance: Kintaro's RevengeBruce Lee - Return of the Legend
-
@quirk_unlimited hopefully we get a fix on that somehow, i did fancy kicking some undead ass, ill make do with 'zombie revenge' on dreamcast, was awesome with co-op the weekend
thanks for the gba contributions, totally forgot about gekido advance, have you tried the psx version out, think i posted it at the start of the list somewhere
-
Mame2010 loads Night Slashers with errors. I get like 35fps on my oc'd pi2, though.
-
dug up another beat em up gem..
Crisis Beat for the Playstation 1
Sadly only in japanese this one but Hokuto no Ken Seiki Matsukyu Seishi Densetsu for Playstation 1
Theres a few spiderman ones i listed already but theres Spider-Man: The Video Game for M.AM.E which is 4 player!
-
Didn't see Brawl Brothers on the list, which i'm really suprised.
Snes
