Pc engine add new extension default
-
As far as I understand, if you have a .cue file, neither .iso or .bin need to be in the es_systems.cfg. Having those in there means both the .cue, .bin and/or .iso will appear in your games list - which looks a bit strange and cluttered. The .cue extension is already in es_systems.cfg, and that should be all you need.
I had this with the PSX emulator, because by default .cue and .bin are both in es_systems.cfg, so all the individual audio tracks (in .bin format) were appearing and cluttering up my list. I have a .cue file for every game (i managed to find an entire .cue zip on the web which helped), so I removed .bin from es_systems.cfg to clean up the list. Now my gamelist just has one entry for the game - essentially the .cue file which just calls the .bin.
Does that help?

It worked! I checked the cue file on my laptop and it had the name of the iso in capital letters, I simply copy pasted the iso name into the cue file and ensured the .iso extension was also in lower case. I didn't even have to edit my es_systems.cfg. I understand now that this must be because Windows is not case sensitive and Linux is.
Thanks for all your help, much appreciated! I can do this with all my Super CD isos now :)

Awesome! Yes that seems to be a common thing, lots of PCE .iso files have the extension in capital letters. I did the same with all my cue files, just paste the full filename into the cue including extension to ensure it is identical.
On PC Engine, neither .bin or .iso are in the es_systems.cfg by default, so you should only have one entry per game anyway, which is good. For PSX users they may wish to remove .bin/.iso from their es_systems.cfg if they are using .cue files, as this will tidy up their game list. That's what works for me, anyway.
Enjoy!

Yep, only one entry in my gamelist in Emulation Station. Actually, I wonder will iso files containing ogg tracks work, it would save a lot of space. Time to do some more testing! :)
EDIT: Yep, that works too! This is a great way to save space :) I might see about converting all my games to this format.

Nice! I wonder if this would work with PSX games.

Support for ogg would probably have to be added to the mainline PSX emulator if it has not been done already, then it work in the libretro core I guess.

I've been working on getting Turbografx CD games for some time. So far no luck. Here's what I have done:
-Edited the .cue files so that the name of the .iso file matches
-Put the syscard3.pce file in the Bios folder
-Put the syscard3.pce file in the Roms folder
-Run the syscard3.pce file from the Roms folder (I get the CD Game start screen, all in english, confirming that it is Version 3.0)Someone up above mentioned having different Bios files for the different types of CD games. My question is how would I put them in the Bios folder if I have to name them all "syscard3.pce"? I can only have one file named that.
Also, where is the location of this file: es_systems.cfg
Should I next try editing that? Are my CD game roms(.iso or .bin files) somehow wrong/broken/corrupted? I've tried the games Avenger, Star Parodius, and Psychic Storm.
When I select a game rom to play, the screen goes black, then a couple seconds later it fades back into the game list.
I know plenty of folks have gotten it to work, kinda making me little crazy....
thanks! M

Hi,
You don't need to edit the es_systems.cfg for Turbografx CD games to work, the .cue files you are using are already listed in there and if the game shows up in ES it's fine.
I cannot vouch for the quality of the BIOS you are using or games and if either/both are corrupted, but for me all I did was:
Put the syscard3.pce in the BIOS folder (it doesn't appear to be needed anywhere else), my syscard3.pce is v3.00
Put the matching .cue and .iso into the pcengine roms folder
Made sure 100% that the .cue file references the .iso EXACTLY, I mean extension and all. Lots of CD games have their ISO with a capital letter file extension, but the .cue references it in lower case.Turbografx CD games also show the BIOS screen prior to game launch and you have to push run to continue, if you are not getting this i'd be tempted to try another BIOS.
I use lr-mednafen-pce-fast as my emulator, I believe this is the default anyway.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, I would say that these are all the steps I've done as well, but I will check the .cue and .iso names again. The way I changed the .cue was to open them in TextEdit, and copy the filename of the .iso file into the top line on the .cue file, inbetween the quotations. I made sure the file extension was lowercase as well.
I will also look for another version of the bios file. I have two, one is (I think) 265k, and the other is 264k. Regardless, I did note that one was 1k less than the other.
cheers,

Hi,
No worries. Try searching for syscard3.pce in google and go for the second result (think of palm trees!?) Anyway, once you have located the syscard3.zip, unzip that to the /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS folder.
It should be 262656 bytes (the .pce file that is).
Make sure you are using the same emulator as me just to be sure, lr-mednafen-pce-fast.
Thanks

Success. Finally.
I found the bios file. But I don't think that was the problem though. I put it in place on the Pi and still got nothing, no game. So I kept pouring over your suggestions, and I came back to the naming of the .cue and .iso file names.
No even expecting it to work, I changed my approach to getting the files to reference each other. Previously I had copied the name of the .iso file INTO the .cue file and saved it. Well, that was the problem. Even if the text matched, for some reason saving that .cue file maybe screwed it up. So I tried it the other way, I opened the .cue file, copied the name of the .iso (or .bin) and then changed the filename of the actual .iso file to match that. So in the end I did not "save" the .cue file with any changes, I just changed the name of the .iso file. Uploaded it to the Pi and the rest is history.
Thanks for your help movisman, very much.
For the record, I was doing all this on a Mac, maybe that was introducing a problem, dunno.
Cheers!

Excellent, glad you got things working! I guess the application you are using on Mac is maybe reformatting or changing the .cue somehow, I really don't know without seeing the file after it's been saved. Maybe you could try another application to make the edits.
Either way, renaming the .iso/.bin to suit what the .cue is looking for will work also!
Cheers.

@rocklima2 - i have a raspberry pi zero. i'm not very experienced with this, but what do you mean .... add .ccd extension .... because i have noticed that the games that aren't working are the ones that are iso's. The one's with .bin are working fine (after i fixed the text in a couple of the .cue files to match the .bin file name). i tried just changing the extension, but that didn't work. Do i need to convert the file in a program.

@KairosZenith if you have a problem you should start a new topic. Also - Please do not post a support request without first reading and following the advice in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first

@BuZz - sorry, new here. Thanks for the reply. i don't understand why i would start a new topic, when my question is about the first comment in this topic. As far as i can tell, i already followed the advice. i did a search and this was the closest thing that came up about my question. i've put many, many hours and late nights, in the past week researching this project and just trying to figure this out. Thanks for any help and direction.
