question on powering off the unit
-
I know that you can shut down the pi3 within the retro pie console.. but I have what might be the dumbest question ever.. how do you get it to turn back on? my wife wants to take it to her friends house to show her, and I just want to make sure that it easy for her reset back up once she gets there..

@MuppetMikey Just plug it into the mains again dude. They're designed to turn on as soon as they get mains power, but safe shutdowns are required so that you don't corrupt the SD card. Just ensure you shutdown through the ES menu each time.

You should be using "Shutdown System" in RetroPie and then unplugging the micro USB power cord. To turn it back on just plug it back in.

Can't recommend one of these enough:

Ships from Germany, but only took about 8 days to get to the UK, at Christmas too. Removes all that worry around safe shut-downs. I corrupted one SD card in a very short timescale prior to having one of these. Worth the money!

@MuppetMikey I personally use an ATXRasPi board to power mine, but I know there are at least a few other options: Mausberry, the PowerBlock that @Danorak1981 mentioned, and others.

Here's a video that shows you how to install a power switch on a PI3.
