Vectrex Sound Issue
-
Pi Model: 3, Canakit power supply, Audio and Video through HDMI to LCD TV.
RetroPie Version 4.1.12. Emulator: lr-vecx, updated today via RetroPie Setup. After launching a Vectrex game, let's say Berzerk (the issue is not specific to any particular game), I get clean audio on the standard Vectrex startup "da-ta-daaa" sound. I even get clean audio on the little Berzerk intro music as I am choosing number of players. But once I get into the game proper, for every sound that is played, the last tone generated persists until the next sound begins. Let's say I shoot a robot. The sound of a robot dying goes from high to low. That final low tone that is generated by the robot dying will persist until another sound is made, let's say, a laser firing. The sound plays fine, but the last tone of the laser now rings out constantly until the next sound happens. In Armor Attack, it is a TERRIBLE sound, like the sound of the enemy tank or chopper is echoed and amplified. If I kill the tank and there is no chopper, there is no terrible sound.
I have tried every video option with no change. I have read another post that audio through the stereo jack, rather than through HDMI, results in cleaner sound on Vectrex. Short of doing that, I have tweaked every vectrex option through the individual game configs, and through Vectrex options in RetroArch.
I must report though that other Vectrex games, Bedlam for example, do not seem to have this issue.Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
-Dave
