RetrePie 4.1 will not load past boot codes- end kernal panic- init_resize.sh failed
-
@mrevelli most like a bad sdcard, or badly written/incomplete image.
-
I had this problem when using cheap SD cards. When I bought name brand ones, problem gone.
-
I tested both sd cards. Turns out they are fine. The 16 gb is a class 4 sandisk, the 32 is a class 10 sandisk. Not necessarily a cheap sd card, name brand so a better solution will be needed. I loaded Jesse light with each card and it worked flawlessly.
There is a chance the 4.1 image is no good. In that case what do I do? Download an older image, or wait for the next release?
Let's focus on the code error that came up. What is the init_resize.sh file? Why would it error on a fresh load? Is this thing that glitchy that it must be customized? I can load noobs or raspbian. But would rather just load 4.1 and be done with it .
So thoughts on the actual error in the coding, knowing that fingers cannot be pointed to the sd card .

If you think your image is bad, you can try building it from a base Raspbian load and manually install it to test. Considering how often the image has been downloaded and used, I would be surprised if it was bad, but a bad download could be at fault.
-
@Mobile.Rodri what would cause a bad download of an image?
-
@mrevelli it could be an incomplete download that looks like it finished, especially if it wasn't zipped first. For example, if you download the .img file and it leaves a bit off the end, your browser or whatever software you us to access the Internet can leave the file broken even though it looks fine. It will write to the SD with no problem, but it will be incomplete, and depending on where that error happened, who knows what it will do.
If you check the hash value and it matches to the source, then this is clearly not the issue, but it sounded like you thought the image was bad. The source image on the server seems ok though, otherwise there would be a ton of people complaining. I could be wrong, but I just playing the odds.

Internet connection is solid. I downloaded the zip again. I am using 9zip to unzip. Are there older ONG files I could try bedsides 4.1 ?
-
@mrevelli not sure. Site admins might be able to help, or maybe a generous soul who has the images. I manually loaded mine on top of Raspbian just because I wanted to custom build the OS, but I have used the images before. I'll look around my archive and see if I can find an old copy.
Wish I could be more help. Like I said, the only time i ever saw that error was when I overclocked a cheap SD and when I used an even cheaper SD without over clocking. I switched up to the same ones you have and every machine I've built works great since.

@mrevelli all images are hosted on GitHub. You should verify the md5sum after download and extraction

I've got the same problem but it happened on line 1.875978. The card works fine with an other image I used before but now I get the exact error you have. I've tried formatting the ad card and redownloading the image and rewriting it. Still the same error. I'm about to try an older version and see how it pans out.

@SpeedierBug bad sdcard or badly written / incomplete image. Nothing to do with the version of RetroPie.
-
Its a new sd card that works fine on my phone and pc. The image is written with win32diskimager should I maybe use different writing software?
