Bootberry splash screen
-
Hi Guys,
I've got a raspberry pi 3 b and I'm trying to put both plex and retropie on it. I'm building it into a super famicom case, so want to turn it on and it immediately display a nintendo splash screen. So far I've hidden all the text and rainbow splash. So u turn it on, there is about 5-10 seconds of a black screen, then boot berry pops up, then into the retropie video splash. So I'm trying to fill the 5-10 seconds before bootberry loads with a logo or video.Does anyone have any advice, a tutorial, or preferably an image of the bootberry splash screen setup? I've been on this for about a week now, and have tried everything I could find online. I have some coding knowledge, so picking about in source code doesn't scare me.
thanks

@gi The computer has to load up something before it will load up an image- eg run the kernel, run background processes required for the image display etc. the closest you'll get is using plymouth but that is VERY hands on have to know exactly what you are doing kinda thing. so... unless you are willing to dive into that code for maybe 1 second or less benefit then you'll just have to live with the 5 seconds of black screen.

Yeah, I was starting to think that. I was looking into changing the raspberry pi logo and hopefully resizing it. It would involve decompiling the kernel, then changing the image file for the logo. I found this video
I also saw in one of your videos ' Configuring a Custom Video Splashscreen on Boot' that you boot into the berry mushroom splash instantly. How did u achieve that?
BTW Thanks for the youtube channel.

@gi what do you mean by berry mushroom? You mean the mushberry?
Do you have an example?

At 13:22, u have the mushberry up after 3 seconds. Is that from cold boot? What do u think about utilising the logo? does it sound feasible?

@gi it still took about 4-5 seconds from reboot for the video to start and note that I cut into the video perhaps a few seconds after I'd hit the reboot so I don't know if it really was much faster than what you're experiencing with your build
I'm personally more partial to the mushberry but as the official project we can't due to Nintendo and raspberry pi foundation trademarks.
Though if you're feeling ambitious I do have a Plymouth theme with the mushberry:

I've been meaning to write up notes on getting it running.

thanks man. I'm going to have a re-think and work out plan b

I was wondering, if there is anyway of disabling the bootberry auto boot menu GUI? Not the menu it's self, but just the GUI. So I will still see the background, and if I hit enter, an OS will load.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
