      hey guys,

i installed retropie on a raspberry pi 3 running raspbian via apt-get. even though i am astonished by what retropie can do, i found my home directory completely messed up by all that was installed, especially hidden files and links.

is there a way to do a cleaner install where all respective data will sit in one home directory subfolder?

      cheers, h.

If you truly know what is or is not supposed to be there, just remove the files manualy using a variation of the "rm" command. However, I really think you're asking for trouble with this, even if you attempt to find some automated cleaner. For example, simply using "apt-get autoremove" to remove unused dependencies can occasionally through a system into disarray. However, if you do decide to go down this road, make a strong mental note that you have done so when troubleshooting any problem in the future as it might possibly stem from the decision.

No. But the symlinks are there so that you can access the configurations in one place in /opt/retropie/configs/instead of having to find the configs in various areas of the home folder

I wouldn't worry about having lots of hidden symlinks - it's not a problem. You can ignore them.
