I have some ROMs loaded into the Commodore 64 directory as their zip files, and RetroPie recognizes them, but when I launch them, all I get is the C64 BASIC startup screen with the READY prompt and a blinking cursor.

So I know the emulator must be working and installed, but the images aren't loading. I think these are cartridge ROMs so would they launch differently? I think the disk images launch with load "*",1 or something, right?

Just as a test, Once the C64 BASIC screen appears, wait a really long time. Go get a coffee, have lunch, even leave the house. I have noticed that the load time at the BASIC screen can be incredibly slow and that might be all this is. I had this problem when I set up my Wii for C64 emulation and the solution was to map a function of the emulator to the control pad that would fast forward, making the wait time bearable. This may or may not be the case here though as I haven't spent the time to further look at the issue myself. Also, it could be that you have another issue entirely, but it's worth checking.

Yes, I just found that out, lol. Just like the old days, sometimes the loads take a while to start up. All good now.

Good to hear. Now all we need is the ability to play video games while our video games are loading and we'll be set.
