@dankcushions the PSX versions of Doom, what a masterpiece. Probably one of the best console ports of Doom and still plays well today.

My co-worker's son has been playing though Shantae: Risky's Revenge on his PS4 and loving it so I have been curious to play the original Gameboy Color version of Shantae!

        Wikipedia says about Shantae:
"the game sold poorly, due in part to releasing after the Game Boy Advance. However, the game has since gained significant recognition, with some reviewers considering it one of the best games released for the Game Boy Color."

        @obsidianspider
I had a NES growing up but I missed out on the original Castlevania games as well. I had some friends that had the game and I tried to play it and for some reason didn't like it. It wasn't until the PSX version "Symphony of the Night" came out that I really enjoyed the franchise.

Just set up my RetroPie a few days ago, so a good part of my time is tweaking to get everything to my liking. For games though, I'm starting in on Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and spending time with Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2, which remains a blast.

My son (7) is SUPER psyched about it. His top pick right now is The Simpsons Arcade Game. And just starting EVERY game he can.

And then on the PS4, I'm playing FFX and Lego Dimensions (with the child).

            After watching

I decided to play Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (Gameboy). I never played this any more than in passing when I was younger, but it's really fun, and has a similar feel to Super Mario World, but of course within the limitations of a Gameboy.

Also: Castlevania is kicking my butt. Man, I hate how you jump back when you get hit.

I've never heard of Solomon's Key but I just watched a YouTube video of it and it looks fun. I'll have to give it a go sometime.

Bros and bodettes. I finally beat Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. I played it so much as a kid and could never beat that f****ing chicken. Today... I did it.

AND THEN THE DAMN GAME TROLLED ME. Didn't even know hard mode existed.

ETA: I also beat the Yellow Man in Mega Man 1 today.

NES - Mike Tyson's Punch Out!!

One of my all time favs. It's been a few years since I defeated "Kid Dynamite." I'm getting routinely deep into the second round now. I'll get him. I'm probably 0-75 by now on my Pi, but that should turn around real soon.

Beating Mike Tyson is a holy grail event for emulation due to the various causes for input lag. When you finally beat him, please come back to share it. It's an achievement that not too many can claim.

On RetroPie, Demon Front on FBA. Its a gem I found that plays a lot like Metal Slug, and I'm a big fan of the Metal Slug games.

Outside of RetroPie, i've been trying to make a few new songs in LSDJ. When I have time. I collect and mod gameboys. It is an addiction...

                            Currently Playing: Tetris (Gameboy)

I've been mostly tinkering these past few days, with slight overclocking and potentially installing a fan. My oldest son (3) regularly asks me to play "scary ghosts" (Pacman), "taxi" (crazy taxi) and "ball jumping on squares with snake" (Qbert) still those have been the main games I've been playing. Had never played Crazy Taxi and I'm kind of surprised that it is such a fun game. Mindless, inconsequential, short lived arcade fun.

It's that one that's taking me through the GPU overclocking and fan for the Dreamcast emulator, though.

I managed to complete Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (Gameboy) though I will admit I needed some online help to find all of the hidden exits.

I got my wife off Tetris and onto Dr. Mario, now she's obsessed with it! Im slowly getting her used to more complicated puzzle games, next might be Tetris 2 or Puzzle Bobble... i don't think she's ready for Puzzle Fighter 2 yet.

Since I have a cold and I don't think soldering will go well I decided to spend the day actually playing some games instead of working on a Pi project. Doki Doki Panic is so weird because I grew up with Super Mario 2, so the slightly different sound effects and characters are like living in an alternate universe.

Super Mario World on the SNES: I think it's such a brilliant game, and has still had me swearing a few times too. Loved it from the day of it's release and can't see me ever getting fed up of it...

Bart vs the Space Mutants on the NES (my first ever console game when I was about 8, and still devilishly unforgiving at times!)

Aside from a few casual Friendlies on Sensible World of Soccer on the Amiga, thats the lot. I want to enjoy each game one game at a time. I want to get stuck into The Legend of Zelda on the SNES as I never completed it when I was younger, but my original memory card corrupted about 3 months ago and I lost a huge amount of progress, so although I will start it again at some point, Super Metroid will be next (always wanted it but never had it so looking forward to that)...

The first level of that game has some amazingly good and highly unique ideas. Unfortunately every other level, as well as the game's two sequels devolve into a pretty mediocre item collecting platformer experience with a frustratingly awkward jump mechanic. That being said, I drag each of them out to play fairly regularly, so I guess I must enjoy them all to some end.
