Hello i'm fairly new to the world of pi... anyways my issue consist in booting my pi i recently ordered from amazon, not sure if this is a hardware or software problem i have 2 sd cards verified on http://elinux.org/RPi_SD_cards both are supported for retro pi one is a sony 32gb micro sd and the other is a samsung 16 micro sd i have tried everything from formatting to exfat and fat32 as well as connecting it to my pc to see if my device reads on my pc ( doesnt read on pc by the way) when plugged in on to my power source all i get is a red light with both cards i have been writing the software with win disk imager still no dice would be much appreciated if anyone could help me out with my issue by the way when i mean it doesn't boot up i mean it does not show up on my monitor when plugged in the hdmi so again some help would be appreciated, about to try writing the NOOBS img and see if that boots up

[UPDATE]
After trying many partition tools in hopes of fohing forrmatting my sd card i came across something called gui format and attempted that copied noobs on to my sd and it WORKED! unfortunately i tried burning the img after doing the same format with gui and then used win32 disk imager to see if it boots... no dice once more i now see that i have 0 issues with my sd cards as i tried it with both, both loaded noobs so its not my sd nor a hardware problem

@nearbear01 when you say it doesn't boot, what happens? Screen remains black or does it boot to a command line?
-
@tygr20 screen remains black the light stays red :/

I got it working!! you may close this thread if need be or leave it open for everyone to see if this can help them anyways.....
i feel really dumb but live and learn right anyways so i extracted the iso from the gz file using 7zip which i did not read up on stupid of me anyways i used winflash tool and burned the img on to my sd card and it corresponded took the retropie and finished :)
still does not explain why at first it would not take my sd card when i flashed it and put NOOB on it as i was not burning on to the sd because it states it does not require a burn but anyways :D
