I have been using the Sega CD emulation feature on RetroPie, and I've come across a bit of a problem.

When using a game where data needs to be saved to the Ram Cart (like Shining Force CD), I'm forced to format it first.

The gama data saves properly with no issue, but once I quit the game, playing it again will require me to format the Ram Cart again, therefore meaning it's impossible to save games unless done through the Internal Backup.

Does anybody have a solution to this problem? I'm looking for a solution on how to prevent the Ram Cart from clearing all its data after quitting. Again, this is a problem only with the Ram Cart and NOT the Internal Backup. Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you,

    -Jax

I don't know the answer, but a good piece of information would be to know if you're using Picodrive or GenesisPlusGx.

      I AM ERROR.

I use Picodrive. And just in case it does matter in the long run, I should mention that this is Pi 2 I'm running.

The same thing happens if you use GenesisPlusGx?

Actually, I have yet to give GenesisPlusGx a try. I'll attempt that emulator instead, and report back with results later.

I can't seem to get GenesisPlusGX to work at all. I have the correct BIOS, but all I get when I boot it up is a blank screen. That makes two problems. Ugh.

Remember Bios names are different from Picodrive and GenesisPlusGX, they are also case sensitive.
