Quick Mame Question
-
I have my mame romset 0.78 working well. At some point I downloaded the .DAT file from github, but I'm not sure what to do with it..... I had forgotten I had it, but I am working on another SD card and noticed it. I guess my question is, do I need it & where should I put it?

@Tibbetsni You don't need it.

Ok, thank you. That's kinda what I thought.

@Tibbetsni dats can be useful if you want to filter out your mame ROMs (4000+ games is overwhelming!) Or if you have the wrong romset you can use it to rebuild the correct ROMs but much easier just to get the correct romset in the first place

Oh, So if I loaded the Dat file for "working no clones" it would help sort out the excess roms?

Yes, with the .dat files, you can use a tool called 'clrmamepro' to create a new rom set which inlcudes only the roms listed in the .dat. The tool runs under windows rather than on the Pi itself.

@Tibbetsni Yes or you could go one step further and use @markwkidd 's Simple Arcade Multifilter
Please keep in mind that the supplied catver.ini found on the Libretro github for Mame2003 is incomplete and some games will still go thru the filers. This is not Simple Arcade Multifilter fault.
This can be checked with Mame32 UI 0.78 for reference after sorting out a folder.
Maybe i will have a look at the catver.ini someday.
