downgrade krypton to jarvis
-
@Omnideath I can't help you downgrade (will require some manual work), but perhaps you can explain the problem - it may well be easily changed/fixed.
-
@BuZz I have used xbmc/ kodi / spmc for years. Krypton 17 is terrible on the Pi. The playback is fantastic. Moving between menus is tedious. Moving back is tedious. Reloading a list is tedious It is slow, really slow...
-
@AlexMurphy increase gpu split?
-
Works nicely here on my system.
-
@herb_fargus 300 Gpu. I doubt it is even all used.
-
@herb_fargus I have 16 on the Pi upstairs. I updated the livingroom Pi. It just seems really slow when navigating menus. I set the Pi upstairs to HOLD the Kodi package. You should tell people it is possible to hold packages.
-
I wasn't a fan of the new look aswell. However, you can always just download the Confluence skin and it looks and feels like Jarvis again.
-
@celly It's not the look. A lot of code was changed between 16 and 17. It genuinely runs slower in the menus now.
-
@AlexMurphy I haven't experienced any change, honestly. Seems to run the same for me. Just that 17 menu was total poop.
-
@celly It may well be that Estuary skin.
-
@AlexMurphy yeah, thats the name of it.
-
@celly Thanks for confirming what I already knew.
-
Estuary skin is a little heavier, nothing new, so not so smoother, speccially in RPi 0/1/2, but like someone said you can still install the old Confluence skin. But besides that, there isn't much changes, I think, unless the increased increment of features that is natural in new versions of software, and that gennerally tends to make the software heavier.
I don't know exactly where you feel it slower the most, but there is already some fixes in place to make Kodi better. We will upload soon a new version, that should improve somethings. -
It took me a few goes to come round to it, layout is ok, it's quicker to find my files under videos now, plus it shows skimmed movies as well as ordinary files which is really handy. I hated that movies wouldn't show all files and videos couldn't show details, so a big thumbs up from me:)
Not that I need it soon, I cannot seem to find any wifi connection settings. I'm guessing it may be via the retropie menu rather than in kodi itself. Has anyone tried?
-
@Fruitybit said in downgrade krypton to jarvis:
I'm guessing it may be via the retropie menu rather than in kodi itself.
That's right. RPi Kodi distributions such as OSMC have tailored addons included that can configure WiFi, but there really wouldn't be any need here after configuring RetroPie for Wifi as usual.

Hi.
I actually did that myself because for some reason (maybe perception rather than reality) one of the addons I used ended up having a more unreliable behavior on Krypton rather than Jarvis, when playing side by side (I had two SD cards to test).
If I recall correctly, you should run:
sudo apt-get install kodi-bin=2:16.1-4~jessie sudo apt-get install kodi=2:16.1-5~jessie
to perform the downgrade, and then you'll want to do
sudo apt-mark hold kodi-bin sudo apt-mark hold kodi
to make sure they don't get auto-updated when you update all packages.
Let me know if that doesn't fully work, as it was a few months ago, but this should do the trick.
Best.

@AlexMurphy Hit the nail on the head. Krypton is just awful for me. It runs extremely slow and sometimes just boots me out of a stream. That same stream will often fail to play and end up having to find a different one. Even with the Confluence skin it runs like poo.
I pulled out my old SD card running Jarvis and the same streams ran better and with quicker responses (and it's a much slower SD card than the build with Krypton).
My GPU split I believe was above 256; should i do more?
@pjft I will run this and update you on what happens. Thanks!
-
@pjft That worked flawlessly. Thank you for your help!!
-
Hey this is the topic ive been searching for but the down fall is i dunno where yo put that sudo code you wrote @pjft im new to retropie heck raspberry pi in general could you guide me in to where i put this code kodi 17 is just an embarrassment kinda like Windows 10 or windows vista lol

@emelo From the main ES / RetroPie menu press F4 to get to the command line. Enter the commands in there. Enter the first and wait for the command prompt to come up again then enter the second. Answer Y if the system asks you to proceed. DON'T hold the packages until you have checked it worked for you. I tried it out just to see but it didn't work fully. It said it was 16.1 but lots of menu options were missing, addons wouldn't work, I couldn't change skins to even attempt to fix it. I guess I went so down the 17 path that most of my addons and dependencies have updated to support that and couldn't be downgraded without a fresh install or a lot of work. I just updated to 17 again and we are going to have to get along!
