@jukeltrucc So it's a game controller, not a remote.. Go to Settings> System Settings >Input > Configure attached controllers.

You have to use your keyboard to navigate to A then press Enter on the keyboard and it will give you 5 seconds to press A on your Xbox One controller...then 5 seconds to press B...so on and so forth.

Here's a video but they are using the mouse to navigate (which might work as well on a Raspberry Pi):

Are you using the Xbox One controller wired or wireless? Also which driver are you using Xboxdrv or Xpad?

but i would like to know how to use it wirelessly lol.

I have the Xbox One controller with the headphone jack and I couldn't get it to work wirelessly.
I even have the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows and it works great in Windows but I couldn't get it to work on my RPi3. I think it just doesn't have enough power to push this adapter but that's my guess.

I think the new Xbox One S controllers uses Bluetooth but I'm not sure if that is working either:
                        https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/6198/xbox-one-controller-via-bluetooth

I actually use an official Xbox 360 controller with a generic Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter and it works amazingly well!

how do i find the driver?

In EmulationStation goto the RetroPie then...
RetroPie-Setup Script >> Manage packages >> Manage driver packages
