downgrade krypton to jarvis
-
@Fruitybit said in downgrade krypton to jarvis:
I'm guessing it may be via the retropie menu rather than in kodi itself.
That's right. RPi Kodi distributions such as OSMC have tailored addons included that can configure WiFi, but there really wouldn't be any need here after configuring RetroPie for Wifi as usual.

Hi.
I actually did that myself because for some reason (maybe perception rather than reality) one of the addons I used ended up having a more unreliable behavior on Krypton rather than Jarvis, when playing side by side (I had two SD cards to test).
If I recall correctly, you should run:
sudo apt-get install kodi-bin=2:16.1-4~jessie sudo apt-get install kodi=2:16.1-5~jessie
to perform the downgrade, and then you'll want to do
sudo apt-mark hold kodi-bin sudo apt-mark hold kodi
to make sure they don't get auto-updated when you update all packages.
Let me know if that doesn't fully work, as it was a few months ago, but this should do the trick.
Best.

@AlexMurphy Hit the nail on the head. Krypton is just awful for me. It runs extremely slow and sometimes just boots me out of a stream. That same stream will often fail to play and end up having to find a different one. Even with the Confluence skin it runs like poo.
I pulled out my old SD card running Jarvis and the same streams ran better and with quicker responses (and it's a much slower SD card than the build with Krypton).
My GPU split I believe was above 256; should i do more?
@pjft I will run this and update you on what happens. Thanks!

@pjft That worked flawlessly. Thank you for your help!!

Hey this is the topic ive been searching for but the down fall is i dunno where yo put that sudo code you wrote @pjft im new to retropie heck raspberry pi in general could you guide me in to where i put this code kodi 17 is just an embarrassment kinda like Windows 10 or windows vista lol

@emelo From the main ES / RetroPie menu press F4 to get to the command line. Enter the commands in there. Enter the first and wait for the command prompt to come up again then enter the second. Answer Y if the system asks you to proceed. DON'T hold the packages until you have checked it worked for you. I tried it out just to see but it didn't work fully. It said it was 16.1 but lots of menu options were missing, addons wouldn't work, I couldn't change skins to even attempt to fix it. I guess I went so down the 17 path that most of my addons and dependencies have updated to support that and couldn't be downgraded without a fresh install or a lot of work. I just updated to 17 again and we are going to have to get along!

@AlexMurphy hey thanks. I ended up googling sudo code and it showed a program called putty to in ran that and kodi is back to 16.1 runs smooth and
[removed]
is running so much faster... Why would the people at kodi mess around with a great version and destroy it with kodi 17 -
How come the sudo code no longer works it says E: Version could not be found... did they removing it from the servers?
-
@emelo https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/2/forum-rules - we are not interested in hearing about your addons
-
@BuZz Me asking why the link for the 16.1 version of kodi is not against forum rules cause Im not asking about ADDONS im asking why the link to revert back to 16.1 from 17 is no longer active. has nothing to do with
[redacted]
or other addons but has everything to do with the functionality of KODI -
@emelo Good idea - argue about it.
-
You should run the addon fresh install (on anther like this) in order to make the kodi folders free.
I got an error when I did, so I had to:
run fresh install addon in krypton
downgrade to jarvis
i got a missin config error
upgrade to kripton again form retropie setup
downgrade to jarvis againNow you should have a fresh jarvis ready to go.
Oh, and you can unhold the packages with the "unhold" command.

I'm getting "E: Version '2:16.1-4~jessie' for 'kodi-bin' was not found.
I'm keen to get a working version for the old picture slide-show that didn't crash out back to RetroPie menus every 15 minutes or so.
Any help appreciated.

Update Kodi first in RetroPie-Setup, than you can downgrade.
