A few questons before buying raspbarry pie3

I got some thermal past from 5 6 years ago is it still good? it's been open before I used it on my computer when I built it.
-
@Deltax5 should still be good as long as it is not all dried out. However I have never seen a heat sink for the pi that required paste. All the ones I have used that an adhesive "thermal sticker" pad on them. just peel off the backing and press it down on the processor.
-
@Gosenbach And for my entire life of building PCs, I have always dutifully scraped that adhesive crud off and added thermal paste like Arctic Silver. I used that sticker goo on a PC once. And I had to rebuild it.
-
@Lyle_JP yes, I get that with a PC. However with a PI, there are no attachment points to screw on a heat sink. For the record, I have 5 Pis. I have used 2-3 different types of stick on heat sinks designed for the pi. never once had a heat problem. I'll call them good enough. :)
If you are using another method of attaching a heat sink to a pi, how are you doing it?
-
@Gosenbach Actually, I've never heatsinked a pi, and the only time I overheated one was when I forgot to take the pi-hat hatch off my case. They just don't seem to need anything but air.
-
this kit im getting has a heatsink. so im guessing it comes with some sort of pad or something like that wondering if my thermal past would be better. I need a reccemended nes controller.
-
@Deltax5 Thermal paste would be better. Don't buy an NES controller, it doesn't have enough buttons. Or buy one if you like the feel and keep a keyboard handy.
-
@Deltax5 I recommend an SNES USB gamepad. It has enough buttons for most systems and games, and feels better in the hands than a squared-off NES pad.
The iBuffalo pad gets high marks from most users. I use a Cirka and have no problems with it.
-
I will change it out for other systems. I just want it authentic for playing nes.
-
woot got it early having a problem thou I got to the point where you WIn32 program i generate HASH MD5 then try to write and it it I get a image file cannot be located on target device error. I run it in administrator mode and im using the sd card that came with the kit. I even tried my mp3 player that has a sd card reader. I can select the img that i unziped just fine but get that error when tring to write it. Using disk imager 1.0. hope I get a reply fast
-
nvm i got it working I thought i had the image in the sd card. it needs to be somewhere on your computer and select H then it makes the image on your card.
Also I need a remote to work with kodi the remote on my cheep tv doesn't work. -
I ended fixing my sound issue with this https://www.reddit.com/r/RetroPie/comments/3evgyi/retropie_30_no_sound/
but now it's stuck at 4:3 ratio how do I put it back to full screen. 4:3 is good for the systems but not kodi. -
I was expecting better emulation. newer neo geo games don't work. Like any of the king of fighters and svs chaos wich really sucks. Battletoads for nes is glitchy. most of the other games I tried ran ok thou.

Neogeo games work fine, I'd say they're near perfect. Get the right roms. For NES it will vary, I use fceumm(the default) because nestopia had glitches in a game I was playing. Switch to one or the other. Overall, the nes emulation is rather good too once tweaked. I also switch the default crap palette to unsaturated.
I tried Battletoads in fceumm, zero issues. -
mame plays neo geo? is it better then the one stand alone one. Where do i put the neogeo games in what folder there's arcade mame-libretro and mame-mame4all.
im surprised it plays dragon ball z hyper dimension fine thats one of the special chip games for snes. -
@Deltax5 Mame and FBA. I find FBA works even better than Mame, but you must make sure you get the correct Neogeo.bios for the version of Mame or FBA you are using.

MAME is a highly accurate, modular arcade emulator and Neo-Geo MVS titles are arcade games. The Neo-Geo AES and CD home console units played the same games in a different physical format with only the odd change of start screens to be found in the actual software. Not every MVS game was released for the AES and CD systems and the latter two had no exclusive titles, so the MVS arcade library is really the only option if you want the possibility of playing the entire run of Neo-Geo games.
-
svs choas doesn't work nore some of the king of fighter but 98 works
-
@Deltax5 svc chaos works. All neogeo games work. If you've cared to click on the link on my previous post, you can learn about romsets and getting the right version for the emulator you want to use. I'm using fba.
-
I've always considered switching over to FBA for Neo-Geo titles, but wondered if it was worth the time. Are there a few sticking points that make FBA a better choice for these games, such as speed or compatibility that are missing from MAME?
