@AlexMurphy No, it just boots up the raspbian gui normally, even though I wrote the retropie img to the sd card

@AwesomeAzzy The official RetroPie image does not come with the PIXEL desktop installed. What you are saying is impossible. Unless of course you are using a third party pre-configured image. In which case I'm not able to assist you.

@AwesomeAzzy are you trying to write the image over a NOOBS install? Make sure to format your card using a good progam like this, then write the retropie image to the sd card.

@AlexMurphy I also thought that it was impossible, I'll tell you the steps i went through.

            1. I downloaded the retropie img, and formatted my sd card.
            2. Then i used Win32 Disk Imager to write the img to my sd card.
3)After that, I took out my sd card, plugged everything up, switched it on, then raspbian booted, no sign of retropie whatsoever

i downloaded retropie from this website.

@celly No, it was an sd card already formatted, so there was no NOOBS anywhere.

                That's weird.
Are you sure that's the SD card you're using in the pi?

@AwesomeAzzy Copy and paste the name of the .img file you are using. What is the unzipped size of the file?
