      Hi ,

      I have retropie installed on a raspberry pi 3 with heat sinks and a cooling fan, generally running in and around 46 degrees.
      All games on the ps1 emulator seem to freeze, then play a bit then freeze a bit then play. I also have some crashes sometimes.
      Just wondering if I have the wrong settings maybe? I am using the SCPH1001 emulator.
      My power source is a 5v , 2.5AMP. I would appreciate any help, as this problem really ruins the experience.

      Here is my config.txt settings for the overclock:

      # Enable audio (loads snd_bcm2835)
      dtparam=audio=on
      gpu_mem=400
      #arm_freq=1300
      over_voltage=5
      sdram_freq=500
      core_freq=500
      gpu_freq=400
      gpu_mem_256=128
      gpu_mem_512=256
      gpu_mem_1024=256
      overscan_scale=1
      dtparam=i2c_arm=1

        @dre3ed if you have crashes then your overclock is unstable. Not all machines can be overclocked the same. So lower your sdram_freq / core_freq etc.

        also gpu_mem=400 will have no effect as gpu_mem_1024=256 will override it - but you don't need 400M for the gpu anyway.

          Same here. Did an update using the official RetroPie-Setup script. Now I cannot start any emulator anymore, because every time it is freezing after selecting/starting a game. Emulationstation goes to 100% and no way to exit/close by any keypress. Nothing is responding. Have to turn on/off to get it running again. Don't know what latest updates do, but now nothing seems to work anymore. I also tried to do a complete reinstall, with latests retropie from master branch, but also here everything freezing.

          I don't think my rpI3 config is there problem in here.

          gpu_mem_1024=256
          hdmi_ignore_cec_init=1
          disable_overscan=1
          start_x=1
          disable_splash=1
          dtoverlay=lirc-rpi
          gpu_mem_256=128
          sdtv_aspect=1
          dtparam=gpio_in_pin=18
          gpu_mem_512=256
          dtparam=gpio_out_pin=17
          overscan_scale=1
          arm_freq=1000
          core_freq=500
          over_voltage=2
          sdram_freq=500
          dtparam=audio=on

            @snmstr your issue could well be unrelated. Please start a new topic. Also disable all over clocking first.

            If that is a RPI3 config then you are over clocking ram but underclock good CPU. You should remove all the customisations to test.

              I took the overclock off, and it still freezes in the game :-(
              not sure what to do now.

                I don't understand why but when i remove the overclock setting i posted in the original thread, and put for example this:

                Enable audio (loads snd_bcm2835)

                dtparam=audio=on
                arm_freq=1300
                gpu_freq=500
                core_freq=500
                sdram_freq=500
                sdram_schmoo=0x02000020
                over_voltage=2
                sdram_over_voltage=2
                overscan_scale=1
                dtparam=i2c_arm=1

                The emulation station will not display on the screen. I can ssh to it and all but not emulation station. As soon as I put these back then it works.

                Enable audio (loads snd_bcm2835)

                dtparam=audio=on
                gpu_mem=400
                #arm_freq=1300
                over_voltage=5
                sdram_freq=500
                core_freq=500
                gpu_freq=400
                gpu_mem_256=128
                gpu_mem_512=256
                gpu_mem_1024=256
                overscan_scale=1
                dtparam=i2c_arm=1

                  @BuZz

                  Ok sorry it seems that I have found the problem.
                  The overclock settings are fine with these gpu_mem=400
                  arm_freq=1350
                  over_voltage=5
                  sdram_freq=500
                  core_freq=500
                  gpu_freq=400

                  HOWEVER, it seems that I have been using the resolution of the emulator and retroarch too hard.
                  I had it at 19201080 resolution. I have now set it down to 640480 and freezing is gone.
                  The quality suffers a little and the screen size. not sure how to get round this issue but its better....

                  ANY FEEBACK ? :D

                    @dre3ed put the configs in code blocks - it's confusing otherwise as comments get converted to headings. Read the link at top of page.

                    Remove the overclock and then test. Sounds like you over clocking is not stable. Post config when disabled. What psu do you use? Try another one to rule it out.

                    Perhaps it's just the emulator / retroarch setting too. Only happens with psx?

                      Sorry about that, em yeah seems fine with other emulators n64 and nintendo.

                      But I am not aware that there is another emulator for ps1 ?

                        just ordered the official raspberry pi charger.... we will see if that sorts it.
                        if not then im shit out of luck
